Meanwhile Helldivers 2 exceeded expectations by many miles.
The dev forecasted 50K CCU, prepared for 250K just in case, had to increase it to 700K two weeks after launch, and is expected to hit that too.
You don't say
What was wrong with it? Too woke?

I don't get why these companies can't go back to the time where you have both a robust, focused single player mode and a separate multi-player mode for the people who do want to sink 1000 hours into it.Those are two different demographics. Everyone largely hated tacked-on multiplayer modes in single player games.
What was wrong with it? Too woke?If I had to guess it was the bad pretense of joke characters taking out the justice league.
The fact that a dude whose entire gimmick is that he throws boomerangs and a giant man shark both just shoot guns is what turns me off the game
Like the idea of this game is not inherently bad, but the fact that each character doesn't have their own unique moveset is just fucking laughable.
The fact that a dude whose entire gimmick is that he throws boomerangs and a giant man shark both just shoot guns is what turns me off the gameLiterally my first words when I saw a gameplay trailer: "Why does King Shark have a gun?"
Like the idea of this game is not inherently bad, but the fact that each character doesn't have their own unique moveset is just fucking laughable.Even Avengers managed that.
You mean literally no one is asking for the thing literally no one asked for?Nah there were a few people asking for that shit sandwich. Every time I see people rationalizing their shitty purchases with video games, they say they're "having a blast with it." It's basically the go to red flag response when people bought a bad game but they're trying to squeeze any mileage they can out of it.
I think literally the only people who didn't see this coming were the WB execs.Yeah, I think it actually did meet everyone else's expectations lol
They have to have been aware of the reception the game's been getting since it was announced, my ass they didn't expect this lol.Not only did they know about the bad reception, they doubled down on it and said they weren't removing the GaaS part of it when they announced that huge delay. Or one of the huge delays they did. People were exciting for the game until the GaaS stuff was revealed. Then there was immediate backlash.

The fact that a dude whose entire gimmick is that he throws boomerangs and a giant man shark both just shoot guns is what turns me off the gameYeah I think there was a huge difference between initial reveal and gameplay reveal. Initially everyone seemed to be pretty hyped at the concept and looked forward to it. Then gameplay shows its a third person shooter with every character using guns and the hype cratered and it became a laughing stock.

I think literally the only people who didn't see this coming were the WB execs. You'd be surprised at how some people on the PS5 board ardently come to play defense for this dripping shit.
So yeah it's no surprise this game would fail to meet expectation, the moment you showed a live service in the same year as other live service games died out like Marvel Avengers and B4B. The only people who didn't see this coming are the literal business execs who have no idea about the gaming industry other than terms like GaaS, gacha, loot boxes, and battle passes. This means they only know which parts of the gaming market makes them money through predatory means and that's all they care about.
But anyways yeah I played the game, I didn't buy it my friend had an extra code for it, and the characters do actually have unique movesets and play differently because of the guns some characters are allow to use and the traversal options. But yes at the end of the day they all just shoot guns and that's how you literally kill the Justice League with. The game runs solid and it's pretty fun, but it's heavily marred by its GaaS model that ultimately will make sure this game will never be good.
How are the missions? They seem so boring and stupid compared to a well crafted one, is that true?
Yeah the missions are primarily escort missions and "kill x amount of enemies". Like through the nine years of game development for this game, I don't know how the hell they couldn't come up with better mission objectives. You would think they would look at Destiny to give them ideas lol.
Yeah that's what really did it for me. I am not OPPOSED to live service games (Destiny 1 and 2 and Division 1 and 2 were the ones I played the most) but they need to at least be interesting. Give me a cool map to move through that leads to a wave defense or kill x amount and that's better than just what they put on offer.
I also forgot that Gotham Knights exists and is more or less a looter fighter with the Batman family, and that one crashed and burned too. How did WB just completely blind themselves to this?
If anything, Hogwarts Legacy shows that you can make a single player game sell like crazy if you deliver on what people are actually looking for in a video game as oppose to tying a game to predatory practices...but I don't think that will be the message that will come across towards the WB execs and their shareholders.
But yeah I play a lot of looter shooters and the most important thing about looter shooters is to have enough enemy diversity, mission objectives, and styles of play for self expression to where it doesn't feel monotonous to grind. Suicide Squad is early in its "life cycle" but I don't see it living very long lol.
Place your bets on whether Rocksteady gets shut down or not due to this. When the leaks about the story were coming in I gave them a year
what next?? skull & bones won't meet expectations either? come onFunny you say that
i mean these are AAAA games!!!
EXCLUSIVE SKULL AND BONES HAS LESS THAN 1 MILLION PLAYERS TOTAL, INCLUDING FREE TRIAL PLAYERS
Wow... all this news, Maybe Live Service games just aren't that popular after all...
To bad companies are still going to keep trying to push one out
