five minute video, but there's a bit about a woman whose cat died due to illness, so she had it cloned because of how much she missed it for about 13k.

she started collecting genetic material after it had gotten sick:

if i was given the choice of having a cloned pet or getting a dog from a shelter.... definitely the shelter.

it wouldn't be the same dog with the same personality.

Cloning isn't really that big of a deal, imo. It's like having an identical twin -- which occurs plenty of times naturally. Plenty of identical twins grow up to be completely different.

So China's making knockoff animals now. Not surprised
This is where cool people write stuff.
Repet a reality.

People here were giving me shit when I said it was naive to think we hadnt fixed the dolly problem and could do whatever we want by now.

Won't this clone have the same health problems that killed the original in at 5 years old?

some of the cases they've shown make sense, like having an expensive show horse being cloned due to how much money it can bring the owner.

or a famous animal (like Lassie).

they even showed animals like arctic wolves, that are dying off due to global climate change, and pigs, which China apparently spends a lot on importing.

but for the average pet, idk.

I guess it depends on the illness (I dunno if it was brought up in the video).

Brings up a morbid look into the distant but not impossible future. Starts with animals. But imagine humans. "You're sad that gram gram died? Your son was killed in a car accident? Clone a replacement." There was already that weird AI business a while ago that tried to sell messages from dead relatives. >_>

Im not against cloning as a concept but we have enough strays as it is. Please adopt.

My cats are everything to me, and it actually makes me physically sick to think that in an alternate universe they could have instead been starving on the street, or in an abusive household.

underrated post
I'll never understand this concept. I don't want a clone. Its still not the same pet. And its fucked up, morbid and insults the memory of the original pet. Also like was already mentioned, you basically tell some other animal out there that you could be rescuing, to fuck off. No. I'd never do this clone shit

If you're still in the "I don't want a new pet I want _" you're not ready to get another pet.

So Chinese knockoff pets are a thing now?
You're nearly a laugh but you're really a cry
Just find a cat that looks the same as your last one and save a ton of money.
See you next Wednesday.
