We could get into the difference between what they did and what they had the capacity to do. Buchanan and Johnson probably did more damage to the country, but I have no doubt Trump would have done the same and worse in their situation.

I mean, he directed a crowd of insane people to storm a federal building resulting in multiple deaths, undermined the core foundations of democracy and the electoral process, and turned many of our parents, aunts, uncles etc into cultists. He was directly responsible for making a large segment of the population reject fucking science and making a pandemic worse than it needed to be one hundred fold.

FUCK Donald Trump. Fuck him long and hard, no other president has done more dangerous or divided us the way he did and continues to do.

Presumably these are the clowns that dithered in the run up to the civil war. But in the mid-1800s civil war was going to be very hard to avoid, so the grading should take that into account.

In contrast, one of Trump's many, many claims to the bottommost spot is ginning up a nontrivial chance of a civil war out of almost nothing at all.

it speaks volumes of Trump that right now he is Buchanan's only serious challenger for the worst president (some would probably also argue for Andrew Johnson, who I would definitely put in 3rd place, but I'd go with Trump over him). He has not even been in politics for a decade .

holy fuck. he's so bad. and I feel like we have seen very, very far from the worst of his influence on the world. somehow.
