Glad Nintendo buried them. Thanks to the boasting of the scummy people stealing the games, they end up damaging the people providing them the means to steal in the first place. The irony is delicious.

Why are people acting like this is the end?
Yuzu/Citra were not the only Switch/3DS emulators. You can still download the emulators from sites that host emulators.
They were both open source, and millions of people already had the code before it was even revealed that the github pages would close.
Yuzu already got a new fork.

People like being dramatic, people like hating on Nintendo (and I dislike a lot about them myself), and people have no idea what actually happened but comment anyway.

Maybe Nintendo should look into how all of their games get leaked so early. Tears of the Kingdom leaked 10 days before the street date. That's not an emulation problem - that's an issue at Nintendo's end which they still haven't fixed. Mario RPG also leaked about a week early.

But I'm talking to a die-hard tendie so I'm just wasting my breath.

Part of it is stores that don't give a shit and will sell before street date. That's definitely something Nintendo can action on, but they need to be reported to them first for them to do so.

Also, I like how the people behind Yuzu said it wasn't intended for piracy. Bullshit, what other reason do you make and release a current -gen emulator for

Some people like a challenge to program on. A hobby if you will. They didn't get paid to write it.

Yeah, they did. That's why they made na LLC. They actually get to keep all their wages as part of this settlement (just the LLC itself is liable).

Yeah the devs raking in money is what's really gross to me. I know people gotta secure a bag to survive, but there's a lot of hubris involved with people wanting their name and bank account tied to these projects

The LLC seemed to be primarily there to prevent Nintendo from going after them personally. Like they were anticipating this legal action eventually.

The issue is that Nintendo lawsuit created the legal framework to attack other emulation. Anything hosted in the US or anybody taking donations in the USA is vulnerable to being sued to debt.

You can fork a emulator, but it takes more work then a pirating manga, movies, music, etc.

No it didn't. Opinions/Precedents are only a thing when a judge makes one up in court. A settlement completely dodges the issue.

Nintendo started suing rom sites. They consistently win against them. Now Nintendo they have establish that selling rom without approval is illegal. So now Nintendo sued Yuzu for decrypting rom and piracy. Yuzu settled , but that mean Nintendo is embloding to find other legal targets and shut down.

Nintendo didn't establish anything because every single one of those cases was settled. The only times a major piracy case went fully through court are the Bleem and TPB cases.

Some good thoughts on the subject. This YTer has ported games to Switch (a Shante game iirc) and deals a lot with emulation. Very levelheaded.
