That's because it's pretty subtle and requires paying attention to the final battle. It's why I hate The Answer.

Um a bit of an overreaction itt to the protagonist that we spent the year getting to know, fostering relationships with and developing bonds, dying at the end . Am I missing something here?

Yeah which is even more confusing. I only played the ending once so maybe I missed something but literally all that lore was lost on me lol.

I killed the the giant emo boy, then went to school tired and napped with a robot. If there was something indicating more than that i didn't catch it >_>
