Idk I feel like 2B got quite a bit of flack for the time the game came out. But those games also came out when that type of character was the norm.

If there's any criticism its more that their games are actually fun while so far Stellar Blade looks and plays like a Souls game with a hot chick protag pasted in.

most people dont care about the design beyond thinking it might be over the top but are waiting to play the full game

Bayonetta came out way before culture war crap was more common. Nier Automata was released just before it started to really snowball into a big thing.

The creator of 2B also asked for porn of her so that pretty much shut down people who thought they could make the creator change her design.

I personally just dont like egregious fan service in my games. For people who like it, cool.

The other, and more annoying issue, is the group who have latched onto the game solely because of how Eve looks. A combination of coomers and right wingers opposing THE WOKE have created an absolute monstrosity of a fanbase and love this game

Your premise doesn't make sense. The upset people you point to are on ResetEra, but those same people also had the same issues with Bayonetta and 2B. They were always upset with female character designs like this, this is just the newest example.

Both Bayonetta and 2B got shit on by the "journalists". The Bayonetta one died down after a while when they found out it was actually a women who designed her and Yoko Taro flat out admitted he just likes hot women when they went after him.

I've definitely seen people complain that Eve's design is "unrealistic" (which is ridiculous because she's a literal 3D scan of a real-life Korean model) or "too sexualized", but I've seen more people complaining about the above complainers being "woke SJW's" than I've actually seen the above complainers complaining about the game itself.

So it seems to me like the complaints do exist, they're just being blown way out of proportion.

Eh, It'd argue bayonetta was much more about female empowerment what with how confident and in-control/overpowering she was compared to whoever she was up against. Back when that game first released on the 360/PS3g there was actually a good bit of gamers that was complaining about her looks/her hairstyle. (Same with bayo 1 jeanne). It wasn't like it was just a gamefaqs thing either....I remember coming across those kind of librarian/eh/looks old etc. complaints about her on places like neogaf and reddit.

One of those derpy topics is still archived on the bayo 1 boards since gamefaqs goes as far back as 2008.

Without, you know, doing the research to find out that the Stellar Blade dev has been happily married for a decade and a lot of the women designs in his games were from his wife, who's also beautiful.

"Woman has superpowers" is a really superficial form of 'female empowerment'. Female empowerment is about women having substantial credibility and decision-making opportunities in society, including that empowerment being represented in media. Which ironically, Bayonetta was frequently used as a cudgel against women who complained that gaming was a misogynistic space in ~2009. "This game has a female character that kicks ass so how can SJWs complain that games objectify women / etc?"

And of course with these female characters that did kick ass it was so frequently in the same was as "she uses her sexuality as a WEAPON!" Very convenient. Bayonetta happens to wear her hair as clothes and it has to peel off for her to do her big attacks lol. The credits of Bayo 1 has her dance on a stripper pole. I'm not trying to shit on Kamiya or anything, and there are good points to Bayonetta especially as the series goes on. Bayo 2 is one of my favorite games ever. But the primary function of her design was for dudes to ogle it, not for women to feel actualized seeing her.

As to some people complaining they thought Bayonetta was ugly, that doesn't speak to Bayonetta not being designed to be sexy to men. If anything it just shows how the game's presentation of her conditioned players to view her as a sex object for their titillation and then talked about whether she satisfied their preferences. This is the box art lmao, doesn't even show her face just her huge ass.
