Reading the Executive Veto page on TVTropes (yeah, I know), and it has under the Venom section that originally, Venom was going to be a young woman who blamed Spider-Man for her husband being run over by a cab who was distracted by Spider-Man swinging overhead, which also led to her having a miscarriage. However, the editor vetoed this, because he believed that there was no way a woman could ever make for a threatening supervillain, and thus Eddie Brock was created in her place.

Do you feel that what that editor said has merit, or was/is he completely wrong?

Friday the 13th (original) came out in 1980. The symbiote was introduced in 1984. Eddie was 1986.

So he's like super wrong. He's had years to think about how wrong it was and still chose to be wrong.

He's absolutely in the right lololol.

Actually what's funny is that there IS a female venom. She's even on the cover of snes Spiderman and everything.

They've even made a rule 34 comic and story about her, if you can believe it.
He's wrong, a woman can absolutely be a good villain.

The scenario for her hating Spider-Man was kind of dumb, but Eddie's hatred is for dumb reasons too so...

I guess you're referring to Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety which does not have a female Venom of the cover. That is a symbiote covering a female, but it's an offspring similar to Carnage called Scream. The storyline the game is based features 5 of these offspring.
Female Venom as you put it is Anne Weying, Brock's ex-wife. She wore the symbiote for a while as well.

You're not crazy. That's Cletus next to Eddie. They were in prison together for a bit.

Never been there so I wouldn't know. But if the picture you posted contains the symbiote in question...that would be Scream. You can easily tell by her yellow color.

This is Anne Weying as Venom

Came here to post this.

Had Venom been a woman, she might have been the Catwoman to Spidey's Batman.

Shouldnt it say but my spirit is free not by my spirit is free?
He is wrong but not in context.

That is to say Spiderman causing her husband to be ran over and then miscarriage wouldn't have made a good villian.

Brock is cool cause he waz Spiderman's peer who got one upped by the fact that Peter cheats to get his photos and when Brock becomes Venom it is the perfect realization.
The womans motive would have been tropey and overdone but Brock actually shows that Peter is flawed and not perfect and exposes privilege of being Spiderman. This plays into the arc.
Also 80s comics couldn't have made her not sexy. She would been wetdream of many boys.

They should have done this, made a running joke of it, and made it her gimmick.

Not that Spider-Man keeps repeatedly doing stuff that through no fault of his own ruins her life further, but rather seemingly unrelated stuff keeps ruining her life further but she manages to tie it all back to that one time that Spider-Man swung overhead, but instead of just being crazy, she's actually right.

For example, three years later, a brick falls out of the sky and hits her in the head and she spends months to year hospitalized with a window in clear view of the place where she fell, and she recognizes it as the place where her husband was run over, and she notices the missing brick in the wall above, and she has another villain track down the brick and do tests on it, which reveal traces of Spiderman webbing dated to exactly the date of his death, which definitely loosened it enough that three years of gentle breezes and bugs managed to finally push it out.

And the issue ends with her raising her arms over her full head cast yelling "SPIDER-MAAAAAAAAAAAN!"
There's a difference between canon and not-stupid.

A female Venom or a female hoomin?
Edit meant to say female symbiote, it's kinda like the Dracula and vampire thing right (all Draculas are vampires, but not all vampires are Draculas)
