I remember something about a Yakuza/Judgment voice actor being blacklisted due to some drug use, or something like that. there was at least a lot of controversy, and I think he lost his job.Yeah, the guy who voiced the playable Chinese-speaking beat cop in Yakuza 4 was accused (I don't believe he was ever convicted) of using cocaine. Since they used his voice AND likeness for the character, said character was never mentioned in the franchise after that game, despite the other player characters still showing up. They even re-cast the character (likeness and all) for the remaster.
in the west, everyone would be like, "that's his personal business," which I would agree with.
Drug use and adultery are serious business in Japan.Yeah Japan dont even tolerate weed
Yeah Japan dont even tolerate weedThey used to love it, before we influenced them into criminalizing and stigmatizing it to hell and back.
all the worse japanese scandals are for mangakasIt still fucks me up that the guy who made Ruronin Kenshin was busted with a mountain of child porn and all the sick fuck got was a fine and a brief hiatus from drawing his book.

Stuff like even minor drug use absolutely ruining people's careers (or even false accusations!) and the insanely creepy subcultures around voice actors and idols are pretty bad, I'd say your Japanese fetishism is leading to you downplaying things quite a bit.All I'm saying is what Japanese voice actors do is tame compared to Americans when caught in a controversy. I'm not trying to downplay the reactions to it.
I wonder what Vic Mignogna is doing now? He threw his anime VA career down the toilet. I think Crunchyroll is limiting how much of his dubs are available for streaming to reduce the amount of royalties they owe him.Doesn't he have his own dubbing studio now? Probably the only way he can get work after what happened to him
