People that would kill their own family are deranged and woulda done it regardless. Was a story not long ago of a mother stabbing her husband to death and shoving her kids out of a moving vehicle
If he had a full, cold-blooded commitment to doing this he wouldn't have killed himself out of what was almost certainly guilt or a mental breakdown so intense he forgot one of his family members was still alive (if it was premeditated to escape the consequences of what he did, I doubt he would have left one kid alive). Guns are more dangerous for murder/suicides not just because they're better weapons, it's because they give people less time to reconsider.
