average is consistently a terrible way to measure anything financially, used solely to make things look better than they actually are

I imagine over in the UK, there are people who defend this sort of thing and say things like "well just work harder", "get a second job", and "stop spending money on avocado toast (or the Brit equivalent)" like we do in the US.

Yep that's what our Prime Minster said. "Why not just get better paying jobs?"

Engl-ish breakfast.

Fourteen beans and some blood.

Not blood sausage, just like a vial.

The British don't have the 'can do' attitude of the Americans. The racists will blame immigrants, the rest will shrug and say 'yeah, it's fucked up, mate'.
'Vinyl is the poor man's art collection'.

Brits in general have a slightly more socialist and slightly less work-capitalist mindset comparative to america (for example, working more than 40 hours a week isn't exactly celebrated here, people just look at you like there's something wrong with you), so instead all that angst is directed at the government for doing too little/not enough or on immigrants for taking all the jobs/not working and costing benefits

We certainly have wealthy old money conservatives in charge who believe that the fix for people being poor is to not be poor, though
