Former President Donald J. Trump told a group of oil executives and lobbyists gathered at a dinner at his Mar-a-Lago resort last month that they should donate $1 billion to his presidential campaign because, if elected, he would roll back environmental rules that he said hampered their industry, according to two people who were there.

Keep in mind that Joe Biden's America has produced more oil than any country at any point in history. Also keep in mind we just experienced the hottest April in recorded history.

Thing is the GOP voters are fully onboard with the move too, so it doesn't matter that donors also push it. Conservatives rage over closed coal mines and oil pipelines. Even if it wasn't an option to get paid for doing so Trump would still roll back the regulations.

Climate change is either "someone else's problem" or fake China propgranda, according to which MAGA you ask.

He's just trying to get them to pay for his legal fees. While I have no doubt he wants to win the Presidency again I think a large part of him even running is just for the campaign election money. Just part of the grift.

Biden's admin spent most of the first three years trying to fix all the shit Trump did, while dealing with the MAGA congress

Yes, that is the obvious reason. Trump certainly wants to punish his enemies & critics, however he doesn't want to actually be POTUS. All he seeks is retribution and an escape from his criminal convictions.

I disagree, he didn't want to be President in 2016, but by 2017, it was clear he relished in it.

His admiration for dictators and his yearning to be treated like Kim Jong Un, Putin, Erdogen, Orban, or Xi tells me that's what how he wants to be treated. He wants people to stand and applaud him 24/7 and sit down and shut up when ordered.

He relishes the power, popularity, media coverage, and financial gain he made with the office. However, I still think his primary motivation this time around are trying to kill the trials against him because if he's convicted by anybody who actually has integrity then he'll be sentenced to prison. That's the last thing he wants.

If he loses I'm 99% sure he's fleeing the country.

But becoming and being POTUS is a lot of work and we know how anti-work he is by nature. Part of Project 2025 is getting loyal sycophant's to enacted his shit for him so he doesn't personally have to, because he'll have people who want to do it themselves.

I suppose regulation is a supply side factor, if you think of it like a ghoulish capitalist like "So what it's just a LITTLE lead and mercury from the production process. Our science guy looked into it and it's BELOW a fatal dose! Not adding a step to remove the chemicals saves us money and makes our product cheaper!"
