Online co-op recommendations on PS4/PS5?

A buddy and I just finished a season of NBA 2K23 and are looking for something new to play.

I was mentioning that we should keep an on out for It Takes Two if it goes on sale, due to the pretty good reviews it seems to get. Beyond that and shooter games though, I came to realize that I dont have a lot of good ideas for online co-op.

So with that said anyone have any recommendations?

Final Fantasy 14 is probably technically the most popular online co-op game on playstation.
A Way Out.
It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.

Apparently. Never heard of it, but it looks intriguing.

Any particular one? Or the collection?

Ive always been curious, but this one might be a bit too time intensive. We have like 1-2 hours per week that we can sometimes play a co-op game.

A Way Out.

Id forgotten about this one. Id always been curious about Brothers, and remember watching the trailer for A Way Out. And its only $5 at the moment.

All of them. Experience doing the same thing over & over as the series gets progressively worse. Joke aside, I've been doing with a friend for the past few years now.

Vermintide 2 is a lot of fun. Think L4D but with a fantasy setting.
Shut your BF28/9 sound hole and listen up.

Played the hell out of river city girls 1 (this game does not have native online co-op, but you can use the playstation 5 and 4's built-in shareplay to play it online with your friend) and river city girls 2 (which does have native online) with my best friend and bro.

Actually, because of the playstation's shareplay ability you can consider any game that has a local co-op function to be able to be played online, like deathwish enforcers and contra operation galuga.

*If you never used shareplay before and want to learn how it works, I made a old post about it on the TMNT cowabunga collection's board*

Using playstation share play, you can even boot up some disney afternoon collection just to play chip n' dale rescue rangers NES online, lol. Stuff like tales of symphonia and tales of vesperia definitive edition, the collection with zombies ate my neighors+ghoul patrol, games like this benefits from share play.

If either of you are a fan of dynasty warriors, then dynasty warriors 8 xtreme legends can actually be played online with the PS4 version on free mode. (Alongside one piece pirate warriors 3 and 4).

Dragon's crown pro is a good one.

There is this old indie game called mercenary kings that I thought was cool to hop on co-op with my brother every now and then. (Can get hard as hell though).

Mythforce is alright. (80's cartoon art style inspired first person action game rogue like).

Capcom beat'em up bundle.

Saint's row. (Now hear me out......the glitches can be hilarious on co-op, and I believe all of the game-breaking bugs have been patched out at this time. Enjoy the cheesy story together).

Diablo 3 is always a good time.

Back 4 blood is alright if you happened to forget this game is a thing that exists.

Monster hunter world and monster hunter rise both gives a ton of good co-op hours.

If you want a tower defense game to play on co-op then orcs must die 3 is cool.

I could bring this one up to my friend. From my side, I platinumed this on PS4, and redid most of it on Switch. So I have a ton of playtime on it. Then again I never did the DLC. And this was a fantastic game. I may bring it up as an option to try out.

These have been on my radar, and I have RCG1. I dont think my friend will wanna play it, unless it goes on sale for cheap. But good recommendations.

Ive had this on PS3 as part of the free PS+ games, and its another one on my radar. I may need to recommend this one.

The newest Saints Row? Ive heard bad things, but we both have it as part of the PS+ games.

Only played Diablo 2. I liked it, but god, that was like 20+ years ago. But Id be open to it.

Ive never played a Monster Hunter game, but Ive always been very curious. Well need to look into cheaper games from the series. I dont wanna recommend a high price game when I personally dont have any experience, but this might be an excuse to make the plunge.

Looks interesting, but I dont think my friend will be in on a deck building roguelite. Ill definitely keep it on tabs for myself though.

If you both enjoy baseball, Super Mega Baseball 4 is really fun. Even if you dont, its still worth checking out.

@Killmonger

Is it a game where you just play individual games, or can you have seasons in it?

You can co-op with a friend in season or franchise mode.

Had a lot of fun doing co-op Dying Light. It's easier with a friend you know than some random, though, as the latter might tend to speedrun stuff and that removes some of the entertainment value.
