Who did you think of?
If she said we partied, then I'm pretty sure we partied. I really don't remember. I remember we departed from our bodies.

Van Gogh is the first name that pops into my head. Rembrandt would be my guess for most famous artist name even if the average person couldn't name a painting of his. Mozart jumps to mind if you include music as art rather than limiting to painting. And, truth be told, Walt Disney might be the most widely known name nowadays.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

It's funny, "art" encompasses all human creativity and most people listen to music or watch tv much more than they look at paintings.

But when posed questions like this about art most people default to think of paintings first.

I disagree. Almost everyone has got some visual art around the house. Whether it's paintings hanging on the wall, or flowers in a fancy vase, or photographs of their family, or just gifts that they've accrued over time. We are immersed in and surrounded by visual art at all times. This isn't the case for music.

Da Vinci
Insert some witty line here
Leonardo da Vinci, primarily because popular media tends to use his Mona Lisa as a shorthand for "art", even though that particular painting wasn't seen as particularly remarkable by the general public until after its theft in 1911, and da Vinci himself had far more to him than just that one famous work.
