We are getting hit by a strong solar storm. Comparable to one somewhere 20-30 years ago, if not a little stronger, but it does not appear to be a Carrington event. Still, if you are worried, you may want to unplug your more complex electronics before bedding down for the night (its probably not needed).

Oh neat.

Another once in a lifetime global event. :P
We saw them here in the south, as well.

As an environmentalist college graduate Im not sure how to feel about this.
He's all alone through the day and night.
Strange they said utilities are looking closely at this and it could impact the power grid. I work at a power plant and until this topic knew nothing about it and no one at work said shit about it. Must not be too concerning.

I've heard of it being seen as far south as parts of Texas.

Nope and they must not be expecting this to be near that bad because again the plant I work at or the city Utility hasnt mentioned anything and dont seem concerned.

Yeah, I live dead in the middle of a metro area that covers 14 counties across 2 states.

Even if it were to reach here, the light pollution would make it very difficult to see well.

That and the level 5 recategorization are making me very worried, even though this hasn't reached the West Coast yet.

i cant see too much in Pennsylvania but my friends and plenty of people could.

i feel like im going crazy here.
I see nothing. Or maybe a lot. I thought it was cloudy, but eventually started seeing stars. But if it's enough to take up almost half the northern sky, then it should be wavy, right? So, I think it must be light pollution. There's a town that way, but it's small and almost 10 miles away. I stargaze from time to time, too, so I don't think this is normal light in that direction. But it's not what I'd expect from an aurora, either.
I apologize for nothing!
Im in the Chicago suburbs. Its cloudy and raining. I just finished a 70 mile round trip to a more rural area, hoping to catch a glimpse in the cloud breaks, but no dice.

Ive always wanted to experience this in person. One day

I tried to see them last night, but couldn't see anything. :(

I might be too close to downtown with the light pollution.
