When they have achievements for playing a game with a dev online.
Devs never play their own game.
When you get an achievement for starting the game
Which 82 percent of players have.
That's like every game on PlayStationYeah, this.
When you get an achievement for starting the gameI legit decided NOT to buy Outward for this sort of bullshit. Even though I was actually interested in it.
most versions i've seen have been like "play with a dev, or someone else who has this achivement"I don't think I've ever seen this but it sounds like a fun idea
That's like every game on PlayStationPlayStation has no gaem

just watch how it spreads (or not) around the playerbase
When you get an achievement for starting the gameFunnily enough, the Smash Bros series has that.
I'm honestly of the opinion that games that do that use them for analytics more than it is for player benefit. It is pretty staggering how little some games are played, judging by those early achievement percentages on Xbox.

There are lots of optional achievements, but I made sure the are mandatory ones frequently. That way I can see where people are most likely to drop out.
On xbox it gives you like 1 gs for creating a character, absolutely mandatory right after title screen. Where's the counterpart one to offset it? Oh, just beat the game 3 times on the same character with NG and NG+. Yeah, ok.lol. My GS has been an odd number since literal day one because the first game I ever played on 360 was Blacksite: Area 51 which had an achievement worth, like, 14 and some other random one worth 16 which I never got.
Supraland actually made a blog post about this sort of achievement. They used them as a way to track how much engagement players had with their game, and where the biggest dropoffs were. This is a pretty cool read tbh

Because you know that somewhere along the line they decided "how can we piss people off and try to make them play our game longer than they actually want?" It was totally intentional.

I feel attacked
I figured several users would feel seen , but I certainly didn't mean it as an attack.

I legit decided NOT to buy Outward for this sort of bullshit. Even though I was actually interested in it.lmao, you're the only other person i've met who's bothered by that besides me. i found out the hard way and did end up 100%ing it to get the last 9.

lmao, you're the only other person i've met who's bothered by that besides me. i found out the hard way and did end up 100%ing it to get the last 9.Nah it's fine. I was interested in it in 2019, I actually forget it exists until the gamerscore debacle is brought to memory. They also had a backpack glitch.
by the way, the definitive version has normal increments of 5 if you're still interested in it. although i have to warn you, it's janky, tedious, and wants to waste as much of your time as it can. you might just want to wait for the sequel which recently got announced
When you get an achievement for starting the gamelol I like seeing those milestone achievements. Beating chapter 1 is always like "50% of players achieved this". Like really? That many people bought a game and didn't even bother playing it a little bit?
I just played that jedi survivor game on game pass, and noticed 40% of players got the achievement for finishing the game. so 60% lost interest? ouch.I never finished the first one. It just stole a bunch of stuff from better games and stuck them together. It felt like a very EA game.
I remember being surprised at the % completed of story achievements when l replayed Fallout 3.
The first one was at 100%.
Leaving the vault was at 95%.
The next one was just above 65%.
The last one was just above 40%.
