Ripping off is bad even intentional
Hyper Sonic is less blatant

Yeah, but "supersonic" is a more recognizable term than "hypersonic".
Like, if you have a character named Sonic, whose entire gimmick is speed, and he has a powered up or "super" form, and the term "supersonic" is right there, are you really gonna just not do it?

"Doesn't this look exactly like DBZ"
"Yeah but that's the point"
"Wouldn't it be better to come up with a more subtle, less blatant homage"
"Nah it's better to be lazy and rip them off straight up"
Super Sonic is too op.
XD

What'd I do to you, pal
My favorite part is when teen sonic uses the chaos emeralds to defeat cellDude that shit was siiiiiick. Cell stomped on Chaos Gamma and you knew shit was about to get real when Live and Learn suddenly kicks in.
Well, in that case Ultra Instinct Goku ripped off Hyper Sonic.
So they're even.
Both are recognizable terms LOL
Also, you realize that "Super" isn't the only thing that means "greater", right? There's also stuff like "mega" and "ultra".
Supersonic: Greater than the speed of sound.
Hypersonic: More than five times greater than the speed of sound.
Now ask 100 people about the definition of Supersonic and about the definition of Hypersonic, and check how recognizable each of them is.
I mean Super Sonic might be ripping off Dragonball. but Dragonball was just ripping off Secret of NIMHIn the end, everything out of Japan ultimately rips off Gundam, Godzilla or Yojimbo.
:P

Both are recognizable terms LOLTo be honest, I have literally never heard the term hypersonic outside of it being a Sonic form and didn't know it was a thing until this topic. I've definitely heard supersonic my entire life though.

I did hear it once as a kid, in a documentary on the Concord jets. Remember those?Except the Concorde couldn't fly at Mach 5 which is the velocity definition of hypersonic (Concorde is just over Mach 2). Perhaps you saw a documentary on ramjets instead.
But I always assumed the documentary made it up. It was something like "If a normal jet is supersonic, a concord is hypersonic!"
