See how what they're saying doesn't line up with the subtitles showing the Japanese script at all?

Who cares about the Japanese script, Kuwabara sounds like hes got a permanent head cold, and Kurama sounds like a femboy, and Keiko is Laua bailey. The dub is good, easy top 10
TCs video literally proves why the dub is superior
If you read this signature, then that meant that I had control of what you read for 5 SECONDS!!
You know the old Japanese script can be worse than the adjusted English dialogue right. Being different doesn't automatically mean bad.
I certainly don't hold any nostalgia for it. It's like the people who defend the SNES era Woolsey translations. They're not good at all.

First why would I compare the Dub to the sub? I speak English not Japanese and I don't watch TV to read. If I want to read Yu Yu Hakusho I will read the manga.

Second what sounds natural in Japanese doesn't sound natural in English. A good dub needs to keep the same story and meaning while sounding natural. An under localized dub is just as bad as an over localized one.

Third, yeah the YYH dub is only average.

wow that sub sounds so dry and devoid of personality

now seeing as japanese is a very poetic language im sure in japanese it sounds fine

but in english that just sounds dry

good thing funimation punched up the dialogue

Objectively identifying inaccuracies should be the primary goal.

Which script is deemed more competent writing, is a separate debate.

They didn't just add more emotion they completely changed what they were saying, exactly what a dub shouldn't do

Well I prefer a more in-depth outlook. I want to know the finer details of how a dub's casting and performances compares.

I don't see a problem with that localisation. It's not fundamentally changing the meaning and intent going on in that scene, it actually sounds more natural in English than what is written, gets the point across better. Also and this is very important, it's not injecting any modern slang or pop culture references that will make it start showing its age in a few years.

So yeah, don't see a problem. There's absolutely localisations that are bullshit and shouldn't be made, this scene? Not one of them.

Every dub is awful.

this is why we can't have nice things anymore...its like with the recent Seed dubs how they got so obsessed with things that the new dubs sucked.

I thought that was really freaking cool though. It's like the only time in the entire Dragon Ball history where an alien race said something in their own language besides Dende.
not even a good example. the dub rules

There was one point where I flipped back and forth between the sub and the dub on Crunchyroll at the end of the arc when the stadium was crumbling and Juri was crying because she was going to die a virgin in the sub and they changed it to her not being married in the dub. Both versions were very funny but overall Koto had a better character in the dub. They made her excited for any type of carnage and wove it in seamlessly.

even beings from another universe

Yeah. To rephrase my earlier post, if you're going to be upset that the dialogue was altered, be upset that the dialogue was altered.

It's okay to still find the changes humorous, even if you oppose it on principal.

"Battle aura, his fighting spirit"

You could just change this to the effect of "He's finally showing his true power at last" or something, in response to Yusuke gawking

"So, you mean that's Bui's true armor?" There's nothing unnatural about this line. "So, then, that's supposed to be Bui's real armor?" would probably sound better in English though

"Yeah but this is the first time that I've seen one so intense that it could levitate the person's whole body" Kurama is simply commenting on how intense Bui's armor is and how it can levitate his body. "Indeed, but I've never seen an armor levitate someone's entire body with sheer force alone"

"this guy is strong"

"yea he is strong"

"so this guy is strong"

is basically what is said

which is just bland and boring in english

the dub version still conveys how strong he is while actually showing the 2 characters personalties

Leaving out the fact they also spoke about his armor and how it could levitate his body. Nice strawman lol

Alright, what about the no death rule?
Vegeta crashes spaceship in skyscraper; A shame it is empty because it is Saturday
Destroys city afterward; A shame that they evacuated
A helicopter explodes. Next scene; Wait, suddenly I see the pilot in a parachute, he is alright!
Kami, Piccolo and the rest are not dead, they are stuck in a other dimension. Together with the Dragon Balls. Instead of having them use the Dragon Balls in the other dimension, we must fly to a different planet and use their balls instead!

I think the YYH dub is pretty awesome, but some of the top-tier dubs... probably Bebop, Big O, Outlaw Star... as much as I love them, probably not GITS:SAC or Paranoia Agent...

About half the Toonami/AS dubs are pretty stellar.

Full credit to the Lupin dub, though. Hearing Jigen make a comment about Shaq was probably my first honest exposure to localization and realizing that dubs aren't 1:1 translations (so, so long ago). It was still a pretty quality dub even with cultural artifacts like that, too.
