The grain would be broken, the structure compromised.

Flame of the West?

More like Fart of the West!

Yes but magic

Also this is quite a romantic concept:

I'm not here for friends. I'm here for the truth to the best of my knowledge of it, even if it's not what people want to hear.
Broken bones heal stronger than ever.
lolAmerica
You'd have to melt the entire thing back down and reforge it as one piece.
Furthermore, The GOP is a Fascist Organization and must be destroyed
He who smelt it dealt it.

It wasn't mended. If it had been, it would still be Narsil. It was reforged, from the metal that had been Narsil, but functionally a new sword.
I apologize for nothing!

You can see the smith making the broken bits really hot and trying to stick them together like two pieces of tenderized gum.

It's only a movie.

It's not like a real smith would use a soldering iron to glue the pieces back together
>_>

Magic.
the blade remembers being together so when you glue the pieces it sort of just works. The blade is stronger because of this experience and it doesnt want to be broken again.

same thing happens if you break a leg, etc.
Now or never.

You are correct tc. It would only be in very specific and lucky scenarios wear a reforged sword would come out without too much compromise.

But the idea is cool so it's common in fiction.

I'm only aware of this one instance, tbh.
You have to believe.

Melting the whole thing down and casting it would just make it weaker. You'd want to forge a new sword entirely.

If it's just being cast then yes, if it's being reforged by a proper smith recycling the steel them no.

That's only temporarily. Once your bone is fully healed it's no stronger than the surrounding bone.

It also implies the existence of sword DNA, which I can't confirm or deny.

If it was split into uniform thin layers you could probably rejoin them similar to how they folded steel.

That would be a completely contrived scenario but I can imagine a few ways. Especially if the only goal is to have a sword stronger than it was before.
