He was born in a coop, raised in a cage, children fear him, critics rage,
He's half alive, he's half dead, folks just call him Buckethead
They lost OP status
I didn't know ICQ was sold to some Russian company.
This signature is not political.
"ICQ" sounds more like "I seek you", which seems like the name of a dating app.
Anyone who doesn't agree is part of the problem.
Never heard of this, used MSN messenger back in the day but not used it in probably 10 years.
I haven't used ICQ since 1999-2000ish.
"It was horrible," guard Jeff McInnis said.
"I took 100 naps and we were still in the air."
guess it's time to log on for a few weeks and see if anyone from the past shows up

End of an era
AIM was the first messenger I used I think
No... actually I think I had something just before that, but I don't recall anymore

Most importantly, I used Comic Sans MS as my IM font for years, since it was the most best font

uh oh!
That's a name I haven't heard in 20 years. Were people still using them?
his comparison suggests we're closet african americans.

That's actually its intended meaning... the phonetic one anyways.

Ironically, it was after it was acquired by the russian company that it was loaded with adware, and sex bots would spam you on it for dating/porn.
*This also drives a reminder/warning not to seek it out and install it for a trip down memory lane. It's not worth the spyware/adware and who knows what else it has, especially these days. I only caution this, because that's the overall information I gathered in 2017, when it was suggested as an AIM replacement. Guess now it can't even do that.
I assumed it died before AIM

I've used AIM, Yahoo messenger, MSN, and currently still use Facebook, never heard of ICQ.

Was it used more internationally/not in the U.S.?

I know a lot of people who used it in the 90s anround the same time as Aim. AOL ended up buying it.

Sad to see one of the OGs go like this. I have no idea what it was like in its final days, probably sucked just like Netscape after getting subsumed by AOL. But it was still a pioneer in the instant messaging era and I will miss it for that.

Hurts to see. I'll never understand the death of things like ICQ and AIM over stuff like Facebook or Twitter.

Blah, blah, blah, and blah.
After AOL bought ICQ and brought it onto the OSCAR protocol, you could log onto AIM with normal functionality using your ICQ UIN. Didn't know anyone who did this aside from testing it out though
