I dont know about heartwarming but Ill share. I do quite a bit, couple years ago I figured I might as well get involved while Im still young and have the time and energy. I serve on 7 different Boards and Commissions in my community and region, in addition to my full-time job. Im most proud of serving as the Vice-Chair of my tribes Tribal Utility Commission. We site all utility projects (electrical, water, wind, solar, communications) taking place on our land.

I negotiated with Verizon and got them to build a cellphone tower in a rural community that had little to no cell coverage, despite their map showing 5G coverage. Theyll be putting that up starting next month and its going close a huge coverage gap. Theyll also be paying us 4x the normal land lease rate with the option of installing our own wireless equipment on the tower should we decide to start our own telecom.

I also negotiated with the local ISP who wanted our support for a fiber optic project (replacing old copper lines) on our land. I offered them a letter of support IF they included a 8 mile road in their buildout that currently has no broadband or wireless access. They agreed, and their project got funded with our support and theyve broken ground on that this month.

I wrote a grant through the DOE and we were awarded $3.1 million to build a community based solar installation in our largest community. Its going to serve our tribal residents and will be the foundational infrastructure for our tribally owned and operated utility company. Weve had it with the local utilities overcharging our tribal members, so were going to build our own and force them out.

i do my best to fulfill my civic duty by voting, paying taxes, being a good steward of my neighborhood (not trashing it, picking up garbage, etc)

i also try to befriend people in various local communities, help them when possible, and bring people together who have common interests or problems

when i am spending disposable money i try to shop local. being on good terms with family owned businesses is good for me and them - prices might be a bit higher but you get better service and can do eachother favors

i moved away from home by myself, so learning about local history, caring about my local environment, and building a broad social network has helped me put my roots down and make this place my home. i was isolated for years and just sort of felt detached and lonely.

learning about local history helped me learn about my place in this town's "story", putting effort into the local environment made me feel invested in everyone's general well-being, and integrating myself into the local social fabric made me feel less lonely and more at home. at first meeting people felt hard but once i made a few acquaintances things snowballed pretty fast and now i always have somewhere to be. only problem is now i wish i had more time to be alone and play games lol
trust me I did quite a bit already for my community, only to still be hated on for god knows why

im not in any condition to do anything like I used to either way cause of my herniated discs

apologies for double posting but i skimmed past this post somehow. this is excellent, you should be proud!

Silly me, I forgot the most important parts.

I tip 20 percent at full service sit-down restaurants and always return my shopping cart to a designated corral.
