Are airpods worth it over other bluetooth brands?

Dumb question. Trying to get my wireless buds for mom's iPhone. Is there really any advantage over them to justify the $100 price? She's gonna use it mainly for calling. I mean, I use $20 brands for my google pixel 8 pro, but I don't even buy the google versions, as I see it overpriced too.

Thanks!

In my experience, there is a clear difference between budget and more expensive earbuds, but the budget ones are perfectly fine.

I've been using the Pixel Buds for almost a year and bought a $40 pair of Ankers as a back-up. The Ankers, despite having high scores on Amazon, sound tinny compared to the $130 Pixel Buds. The difference is very noticeable going from one to the other, but on their own, they sound good.

Budget earbuds are also less likely to have wireless charging, which is a big deal to me but may not be to you.

No, I don't think they are.

$20 buds are fine for making calls. And the music/podcast experience will be acceptable too.

No, but mostly because I think other buds and brands in their range are superior and the basic Airpods are really uncomfortable for me.

If you mean is it worth splurging for more expensive buds in general, then the answer is 100% yes.

Pixel 6 phone with Pixel Buds Pro earbuds. Yeah, you'd need a separate charger but they're $10-20 and very convenient. It gets annoying plugging in a million devices a day.

I've never tried Airpods, but I imagine they sound as good as my Pixel Buds Pro and are in the same price tier. Budget earbuds sound worse, but are still fine. And the above poster is correct, for calls I've found them to be just as good.
