Going to bump this one last time with another crazy American extinction story that happened at about the same time as the pigeon. The Rocky Mountain locust had swarms so big that one was the largest concentration of animals ever recorded, yet the locust was completely wiped out by 1904.
Frozen Rocky Mountain locusts can still be found at Grasshopper Glacier in Montana, but someone on YouTube went there and reported that a lot of the ice had melted.
