It's not reported in the game, but from some sources from outside the game (creator interviews I believe, not 100% sure of the exact source).
Basically,
the mayor of Muse city hired a bunch of bandits to attack the Highland royal caravan. Luca's father Agares fled. The bandits then turned on Luca's mother - he was forced to watch as they raped her. Luca's half-sister Jillia was born as a result of that rape. This is not really alluded to in the game...there *is* a section where Luca remarks that Jillia shouldn't cry about Agares's death since Agares was not actually her father, but that's about it
I remember that scene, it made me think that, but I wasn't sure.
