Raytracing has been a thing for over 6 years at this point. I don't think it's unreasonable to start releasing games that require it. Didn't seem to hurt the sales for Indiana JonesThe id Tech engine is infamous for being so optimized that you can run Doom 2016 and Eternal nearly maxed out on the shittiest PCs at ludicrous framerates. It doesn't help that id's been outspoken about using ray tracing not to push their engine further but to save devs time and effort.
