Raytracing has been a thing for over 6 years at this point. I don't think it's unreasonable to start releasing games that require it. Didn't seem to hurt the sales for Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones did not sell well at all. It's debatable how much of that is because of Gamepass, but other games also on Gamepass have sold much better on Steam than it did.
Taking away options is never good.

It doesn't help that id's been outspoken about using ray tracing not to push their engine further but to save devs time and effort.
My mistake saw an article and misread "played" as "sales". That article said 4 million plays though, so that gives some idea on Gamepass vs sales.

https://80.lv/articles/doom-the-dark-ages-has-reportedly-sold-less-than-1-million-copiesAlso Gamepass
Making ray tracing mandatory probably had a lot to do with PC sales apparently slipping
Also Gamepassexpedition 33 is also on gamepass and it just sold over 3 million

I didnt buy this because the physical version is just a disc that triggers a download
expedition 33 is also on gamepass and it just sold over 3 millionFair enough!
I didnt buy this because the physical version is just a disc that triggers a downloadI would pay real money for a real physical release, but I'll pass on this one.
Ill get it on deep discount eventually

whatever deal microsoft cuts to put stuff on gamepass, it's *disastrous* for game sales
(granted, high price tag and high specs for a doom game probably don't help either)
Fair enough!
I heard your PC explodes from this game
Plenty of games have sold well despite being on Gamepass. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and Persona 3 both sold like crazy despite being day 1 Gamepass.Yeah. I tried games like Palworld and Grounded on Gamepass and decided I wanted to buy them. So now I have them both on Steam. Gamepass isn't necessarily the death of game sales.
