I have to do this for 3-4 months and track the calories on the app. I didn't realize just how much crap I was eating until it was time to buy low calorie meals. I've had a strange... craving for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich even though i know the nutritional value is shit and its basically a calorie bomb that will take up half my daily allowance and not be filling at all. I've been supplementing these 150-300 calorie meals with protein shakes in between just so i don't feel like snacking all day.

I think ultimately what i'll do is buy a bunch of these low calorie prepackaged meals, and eat them throughout the day. Even eating 4 of these meals, assuming its all 300 calories, will only just put me at the 1200 calories. My blood pressure medication has just about eliminated any hunger signals though which is great because then I DEFINITELY won't overindulge myself

Dont be buying processed stuff thats marketed as low calories. Just eat proper food.

Not for everybody, but I've been doing intermittent fasting which has been helping me lose weight.

I like to eat large quantities so having 1500 calories split into one of 2 meals instead of 5 or 6 has been satisfying for me.

The "caulipower" or w/e pizzas are pretty cool. An entire pizza is like 800-900 calories depending on what toppings you get on it.

The Kirland brand ones are low price and really good too.
Bethany took my pickles. All of them. Even the spicey ones.
Are you eating a bunch of calories to try and build muscle?

i do a mix, usually something I can microwave for lunch and cooked food for dinner.

I'm trying to get a gastric bypass so they have me on this plan. As a 6ft tall dude its probably a very EXTREME deficit but this is what they told me so i'm trying my best to stick to it.

They refused to give me any guidelines/sample meals either because apparently they just want people to eat as normal. So I do this for 3-4 months until I finally get the surgery.

You're 6 foot and consuming 1200 calories a day? Isn't that like dangerously low? When I was doing 1700 calories a day, people would say it's too low and I'm much shorter than you.
How quaint.
1200 does not seem sustainable for any length of time.

do you do any kind of exercise? i feel like your deficit is probably more like 2000. unless they want you to lose like 50 pounds in that 3-4 months.

If you don't go overboard, a PB&J sandwich can sit around 400 calories.

As a fellow 6ft+ and 300lb+ person, how do you think you got this heavy?
Do you feel you just eat to be satisfied or like certain foods but overeat them too much?

I personally dont mind eating healthy alternatives but I preferred fast and easy tasty fillings food and tend to overeat till I was disgustingly full. Especially when me and my wife started having kids, it was hard to find time to eat right and exercise

If you like the feeling of being full and beingflexible on what you can eat, I'd consider intermittent fasting. Im already down near 25lb since the beginning of May.
Basically just skipping breakfast and eating between a 4-6hr window.
Need to still count calories but a big filling meal once a day for me is way more satisfying than splitting up 5 or 6 300 calories meals. Just gotta make sure to stay hydrated and maybe take some electrolytes and make sure what you eat is fairly balanced and has good nutritional value.

I mean this as a genuine question, and not trying to be rude.

If you have the discipline to basically starve yourself for four months, don't you have the discipline to lose weight without surgery? Maintenance calories for people of an average lifestyle are like 12 to 15 per pound, so even a less-restrictive diet than that will still let you lose weight.

It's more about future proofing, I don't want to rebound and with a smaller stomach + reduced hunger, i will be unlikely to rebound for a very long time. I've tried last year for a few months and ultimately i fell off the gym every day + diet thing due to things happening in my life.

Cliche but always been like this, like even in my baby pics i'm on the bigger side. Family history of obesity, being told to finish my plate, not really choosing my meals, the weight just goes up and eventually you're too far gone. I've kinda developed eating as just something I do, even if I'm not hungry. If I get bored my brain just kinda compels me to think about food/snacks. It's a habit I'm trying to break and honestly I don't even eat that much. I drink a lot of my calories(like milkshakes, apple juice, etc...) and that's probably ballooned me up as well. Cutting out calorie infested drinks has honestly saved me so much space that i think just not having my 4 cups of apple juice a day is like an extra 500-600 calories lol

Yes, it does get tough. The lowest I ever went was 1600, though, and that worked for me.

Like I said before, the blood pressure medicine is doing most of the heavy lifting for sure regarding appetite. Don't think I've ever felt ravenously hungry, more of just a curious appetite where im not hungry but not full.

Cutting out the useless calorie fluffers for sure has definitely helped my satiety, its a lot in my mind to get over eating so little if i just have a bunch of low calorie meals and tell my body its the new normal. i like burgers, at 340 calories per burger, just 2 is enough to make me kinda full for many hours. If I strategically eat it at lunch time, and pop a protein shake for dinner, it'll carry me through bedtime, while still leaving a whole nother meals worth of calories

I've been between 104-125 lbs my entire life (5'10"). My average is 1000-1500 calories per day and has been for the last 10-15 years. I guess it's the opposite problem for me. I hate eating and gaining weight is near impossible for me.
Like it or leave it. Hey, where are you going?
how does one actually count calories?

is it like you type in "piece of lettuce, 15 grams" and then it does some math?

I've been on 900 for a few months now. With the occasional junk food day in between. Down 20 lbs. I realize its not healthy nor sustainable.

usually I buy something with nutrition labels. But on the Barasitic app it usually has the things already entered in terms of nutrition labeling too. So I can type like Equate nutrition shake, and it'll pull up the 250 calories and macros. If I go slightly over 1500 honestly i'm not gonna beat myself up over it, and i'm not gonna be so stingy that I count how much ketchup i use too since the diets already low..

Yeah I'll probably likely have to take multivitamins just in case i'm not hitting my goals, but after a bypass you're stuck on like 500 calories a day anyway

Yeah cutting out the liquid calories if you are known to have plenty will help a lot.

And I also loosely count calories by just adding up like my high calories main meals but not add stuff like low calorie fruits or veggies. If its like a banana or avocado I'll count it but I like to eat strawberries and blueberries which I rarely count.

How much weight have you lost so far TC?

I'm down 15 pounds in like 3-4 weeks. Some days I go over that, but never over 2000. Doctor put me on another pill yesterday(metformin) to help appetite, which is kind of redundant at this point but oh well lmao. I'm really a boredom snacker, I tend to eat just because I'm not being stimulated at the moment and I catch myself wandering to the kitchen, on the prowl for something to eat so I've been breaking that habit by buying some low cal snacks to help fill in the void throughout the day, it makes me feel full (because of the pills) and reduces the chance of me walkin into the kitchen.

Went to the hospital today and got bloodwork done in prep for the surgery. Met with the head surgeon and he was impressed I knew as much about the procedure as I did, said no one he's ever met knew what Ghrelin was or was as prepared as I was with scheduling all the appointments and doing research. I'm really looking forward to a new start.
