If any company "paved the way" it was Rockstar and their silence when rumors about GTA VI having a $99 price tag started to circulate.
I know this is a sensitive subject for some people and they feel they deserve a comment but its a slippery slope to me if we start thinking these companies need to address every speculative rumor that pops up online in the gaming world.
With that being said most of the developers WANT Take Two to raise the price because they know it will still sell and it will allow everyone else to raise their prices without taking the brunt of the vitriol that will follow.
Baldurs Gate III was extremely well received and one of the devs said Almost all games should cost more at a base level because the cost of making them (inflation, for one) is outpacing pricing trends. Everyones just waiting for GTA6 to do it lol.
Like everyone else wants to raise prices but they are all waiting on GTA. Also I think any realistic person doesnt expect story mode to be $100 game. I think $70 to $80 base game with some type of higher tiered special edition and some type of early online access edition. RDR2 the online came separately later, but was free. This time I expect the same stagger release but I expect online to be an extra cost outside the base game.
