Nintendo paved the way
the idea of a console getting more expensive instead of cheaper is kinda making me go crazy with confusion like a gen 1 status effect pokemon. So waiting until black christmas sale is a no go because the console would be more expensive than if I just go out and buy it now?

This isn't the proof of Nintendo causing it that you think it is. They weren't the ones who caused the market conditions to prompt it, they were just the first to go forward with what every other company is doing.
$80 games?
If any company "paved the way" it was Rockstar and their silence when rumors about GTA VI having a $99 price tag started to circulate.
The tariffs aren't enough to justify INCREASING the price

Isn't 10% of 500 = 50?
That's a tariff on the stated price yes. But my question is why does stated price still need to be $500. Am I to believe that in 5 years Sony has been unable to reduce it's cost of manufacturing so that can't reduce the price before tariffs to say $400?
This isn't a novel concept. Every generation cycle has seen reduction in prices to the console as it ages in its life cycle.
Tech is supposed to go down in price as it ages fyi
PC gaming is probably going to be the only affordable/reasonable option next gen at this rate
PC gaming is probably going to be the only affordable/reasonable option next gen at this ratestill coming from China
?
they gonna get tariffed to sky high
still coming from China
still coming from China

$80 games?"Sony is increasing the price of the PS5 specifically because of Trump's tariffs. Here's how that's actually Nintendo's fault."
Well Sony isn't even an American company so why would they lower their price when Trump increased their cost?Neither is Nintendo, but you're criticizing them for raising their prices anyway.
PC gaming is probably going to be the only affordable/reasonable option next gen at this rateYou check the price of parts recently?

You check the price of parts recently?Yes. In fact I got a new processor for my secondary PC last month and it's on par with the PS5/Series X professor for under $65.

Ah cool
No go check the price of graphics cards
hahaYou can build PCs in the $600 range from scratch that have parity with the Series X and PS5 already, and given how many titles are "console exclusive" but available on PC it's worth considering already.
hahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahahaha
etc
Thank you @Mad-Dogg, for convincing me into getting a PS5 Pro earlyI'm glad it worked out for you because god damn 749.99 is getting up there for consoles. Now I am actually wishing I joined the switch 2 party myself early since constant price increases is probably going to be the name of the game for the next few years.
With the Switch 2, I made out like a bandit this console gen

Anyway I consider myself a couch gamer. The platform itself is irrelevant, it's the library that I'm concerned with.
Tech is supposed to go down in price as it ages fyiTo play devil's advocate it depends a lot on how much the manufacturing and logistics costs change. I can tell you right now SSDs have annoyingly gone up in price and I can't imagine Sony and others gets that big a discount. The costs and future expenses also have to decrease significantly, probably more than half, before a price cut can be considered.
PC gaming is probably going to be the only affordable/reasonable option next gen at this rateYeeeaahh, with Intel imploding AMD is going to get more bold with their CPU pricing. GPUs are already ridiculous, SSDs are holding, cases are bizarrely going up. It's pathetic that the best GPU value is a used 3060/6700XT for $230 all these years later. About the only thing still reasonable are PSUs, somehow.
I think this idea makes for really trendy content/discussion but in reality you need a much more powerful PC than a PS5 in most cases to handle the same game as well, due to typically horrible optimisation issues on PC. And that's after spending time tweaking graphics settings and trying to dial down your FPS, something you'll literally never have to do on a PS5.Before the Intel Arc GPU line I would agree, but the B580 has parity with the PS5 pro as both utilize upscaling to hit 4k. Considering that the ram and CPU were not updated for the pro, you can exceed the specs in other ways without breaking the bank and have a much better experience on more CPU bound games.
Like in terms of raw power a PS5 might be equivalent to a 3060 or something, but actually match that up with the sorts of games you want to play and how well they will run on each and it gets messy.
Likewise, and that's why I PC game, but I don't think it's a typically cheaper hobby on average, whatever people like to say.
Now I am actually wishing I joined the switch 2 party myself
