It was written by Joss Whedon. The crew is essentially a blueprint for the Serenity crew.

Also, the director wanted it to be a dark comedy. He did not understand the Alien franchise.

It's a weird movie. Weirdly sexual in a series that seems like it should be moreso, but never is. Everyone's horrible. Clone Ripley is weird. Everything is weird.

It was directed by the guy who did The City of Lost Children, which is also weird, but in a good way.
