It plays excellent video games like Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Zillion, Psycho Fox, Govellius, and Wonder Boy in Monster Land.

I recognize all of those titles except for Govellius. That said, with Zillion and Pyscho Fox I only recognize the titles, don't even know what kind of games they are, just that they are games for the Master System.
Haven't played much on the Master System, but Phantasy Star 1 was a classic.
What a fuddy duddy.
Zillion was compared to Metal Gear so I bought it but have not tried it. Psycho Fox is a platformer.
The Master System is so bad!

To the bone.

I bought a copy of Alex Kidd in Miracle World off of ebay last night.

Hoping to try that one.
my friend had the master system. I enjoyed shinobi quite a bit.
Why be stupid? Does it make you happy to be stupid?
I hear Shinobi is a good one.
The SMS version of Fantasy Zone is great.
Kill 1 man: You are a murderer. Kill 10 men: You are a monster.
Kill 100 men: You are a hero. Kill 10,000 men, you are a conqueror!
Congrats! I love them :).

Model 1 or 2? Price? What came with it?

Never played it or the Master System, but Alex Kidd did appear as one of the SEGA and Capcom heroes during Sonic the Hedgehog/Mega Man Worlds Unite comic (Archie).

All of my master systems actually have this built in. It is a pretty cool bonus for sure!

Some models don't have a built in game or have Sonic the Hedgehog instead. I had a SMS when I was a kid, and my sister's dad had one too; mine had Sonic, his had Alex. Was fun, although also trying to play [insert any other game here] but the cart was being iffy and so it just booted up into Sonic was a somewhat frequent annoyance.

185 bucks. I looked it up and it's model 1. It came with the cables to plug it in, thats it. They said they would have given me a controller but they didn't have one, I should check to see if they get one. I have a lot of Sega Genesis controllers so I'm fine for now.

How would I find built in games?
The Sega Master System is fucking rad. If you ask me? It was better than the NES in every genre but RPGs and even then Phantasy Star was still right up there with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest just the NES had more.

Edit:

Actually NES also beat it in side scrollers. As much as I love Psycho Fox? The SMS just has no answer for Mario 3.

I might want to get Psycho Fox next if there's a good price. Phantasy Star is over 150 dollars rip

To find out what built in game your Sega Master System has is to turn it on with no games inserted.

My Sega Master System has this snail maze game that's actually kinda great.

Keep an eye out for Miracle Warriors. It's difficult to a fault and the game does a poor job of giving you direction often but I still find it fun.

Sounds like a good way to break your system. I worry about that with retro stuff.

Miracle warriors being the only other real rpg on the system other than Phantasy Star and Ultima 4 and seeing copies for 30-40 bucks instead of 150-256 makes it look appealing all right.
Technologically the Master System was undoubtedly superior to the NES. While globally the NES was obviously far more successful thanks to dominating in Japan and North America, the Master System outsold it in Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand. In Europe it continued to sell decently as a budget alternative to the Mega Drive well into the latter's lifetime. In particular it was huge hit in Brazil, remaining popular for years after not only it but also the Mega Drive/Genesis had been discontinued everywhere else.

It's not a worry with the SMS. You don't even have to trust me.

185 bucks.
...wow.

They got really expensive in the last few years apparently. This is way more than I expected, especially with no games or even a controller. But then again, I don't live in the US.

Get an everdrive or something similar for it would be my advice, so you don't have to spend a lot on cartridges too.

How many millions have you made off of AI? Have you even made enough to quit your job? It's not meant to make you rich, but to make the billionaires richer.
Never had a Master System but I've played the games, my parents got us NES. We didn't jump on until Genesis and even Genesis I abandoned once I got an SNES. My brothers still played it though and it was in their room.

It's how retro gaming is.

Ten years ago, you couldn't give this shit away. Then COVID happened and everything is ten plus times as expensive now.

SMS has nostalgia, but you probably could have gotten an MD/GEN with a Power Base Converter (SMS adapter) for half of that price.

On the plus side it was refurbished so it should work well.

I like collecting cartridges but I will look into it.

I used to love CGR back in the day and it's so sad how that guy's career turned out all these years later.
It is what it is, man.
I tried it with no cartridge and I have one with Hang On / Safari Hunt.

I already bought a cartridge with Hang On / Astro Warrior and have no light gun.

It's a crazy rabbit hole. He started to make slightly less money off YouTube and ragequit before switching to Amazon Prime where he made even less money and then ragequit that. After that he completely gave up on CGR and sold his game collection, most of it being donated to him by a wealthy fan over the years.

For the past few years he repeats this cycle of using the same name/branding to kickstart really awful projects nobody's interested in that have nothing to do with gaming and then ragequitting when they get no engagement, even though he refuses to use social media or try to bring engagement back to his YouTube channel.

Most recently he put out an "animated series" that he treats like a huge TV project even though it's just borderline motionless Blender setpieces set to him incoherently rambling about beer and 70s/80s references. He tried to crowdfund a Blu Ray release for it and when it became clear it wasn't going to get funded he put out a video blaming the lack of interest on everything except how awful it was.
It is what it is, man.

Dude, high five for King's Quest. I'm a Phantasy Star lover as well and played way more California Games than I ever thought I would but one of my real passionate series from the start was King's Quest. I put a stupid amount of time into some of those games. Especially the 3rd one. Man I loved that game. Those old Sierra games from the 80's were legit.

Looks like a small but very high quality collection, impressive.
I grew up with a Master System so I grabbed a few games that I grew up with (Castle of Illusion, the fantastic Wonderboy 3, California Games, and Miracle World) while I grabbed a few other big name games for my collection.

If I'm going with the big games from my youth I still need After Burner and Choplifter.

A walkthrough is essential for sure.
Especially for Rumpelstiltskin .
Thankfully all the King's Quest walkthroughs you need are here on this very site ;).

Using a walkthrough for an entire adventure game is just a let's play video with more steps. I can't get into it that way.

Good for you, the game is beatable without a guide.

Yeah, I am still considering it.
Even if you screw yourself in King's Quest the thing is those games are actually fairly short. The length is in from all the time you spend experimenting and figuring stuff out and the total joy you get when that happens. Don't worry about needing to start over. Just enjoy the experience and don't use a walkthrough. Once you know all the solutions you are completing the entire game in a few hours (not counting speed runners who can pull off crazy stuff in like 25 minutes)

To amend this, go ahead and use a walkthrough to clear one particular part you may be really stuck on and simply can't figure out but I'm just advising against using a walkthrough from the start and following it all the way through.
