Sometimes being entertaining is how you get students to learn. It obviously has to be balanced, but a teacher that can make you laugh while teaching is more likely to get information to stick than someone who's just dully reading through the text book out loud.

Its true to a point. The key is making the kids engaged with the lessons, and that can and should involve building a rapport with the kids.

However, Ive also seen lots of teachers fail because theyve tried so hard to be the popular teacher that theyve lost sight of what theyre actually there for. If you make the lessons engaging, Ive found theyll find you engaging as an individual, but it doesnt work so well the other way round.
