Its because all the allocation is going to ECC system RAM and VRAM for AI racks, so theres just much less of it to go around for everything else.

I went and checked out what I payed for RAM earlier this year and I payed $175 for a 64GB kit. That same kit doesn't even seem to be available right now on Amazon but similar kits costs between $335 to $430. That's just nuts.

Looking at the prices, you can save some money if you buy XMP profile RAM over EXPO. This is where understanding timings and being comfortable setting a profile in the BIOS could save you about $100.

I put 96 GB single rank in my new build in June, but mainly because I was tired of browser tabs crashing with 32 GB and 4 sticks looks better than two.

Isn't 16gb more than enough for most users?

You can get by on 16gb, but you should really be building with more in mind. Largely because overtime things just need more RAM and if you're getting by on the minimum now, then you're going to run into issues sooner.

I would say 32gb right now is a good spot. It's more than enough looking out towards the future especially if you game on PC.

They arent hoarding anything, theyre booking capacity at Hynix and Samsung for RAM that isnt made yet, which means less RAM is being made for everyone else.

not only RAM but SSD are also going up in prices which sucks and fuck AI fad for that
i am glad i bought rams early but damn it i didn't with SSD cuz i was short on cash for it but seems it will take until the AI bubble to burst for it to go down again

Really? What things require more than 32GB other than like professional video editing software or something? I'm getting along absolutely fine with 32GB and W11.
16GB is way more than enough for basic users
32GB is plenty for gamers, you really only need more if you're doing video/audio editing or high-intensity compiling or somethiing

I've been rocking 32GB DDR4 3600 since 2021. Glad I still don't have to worry about upgrading for now.

16gb is enough for basic gaming and light multitasking but there are games that use up most of it so it's better to go for 32gb to have more ease and not run into ram bottle neck
now 64gb is for those who are doing heavy work like editing and such so i get why plus there are people who need it for games where they are streaming and doing other stuff while they at it

and lastly we used say how 4gb is enough and now days that isn't true so i can sadly see how we will be needing 32gb being the basic norm like 16 due to future crappy windows and games not being properly optimized and chrome/firefox being more of a memory hog maybe for some dumb reasons sadly

w11 maintains a bigger ram cache, if a program needs it w11 gives up what it doesn't need.

I just looked and the 32GB of RAM I bought for my new laptop back in June (not even five months now) has gone from $78 to $162. On the desktop side of things, I've been using the same one for 5 years now and haven't felt the need to upgrade, so as long as nothing breaks, I'm good. Funny story, though, the only reason my desktop has 32GB is because Amazon accidentally sent me a set of 16x2 instead of the 8x2 I ordered back then.

On a related note, nothing has come out in recent years that needs more than what I have (desktop has a 5600x and 3060 Ti, laptop has an AI 7 350 and 5060) to run at at least 60 FPS, even if that requires setting things to low (and for me, almost anything new looks good enough to my eyes even at those settings). Part of it just might be that almost nothing AAA has caught my attention in a long time, though, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

I have dozens of browser tabs open constantly, and with 32 GB RAM, I had tabs crashing when it runs out of memory on my old AM4 rig.
