I've never checked my credit score in my life.

It must be fine, though, as I've never been turned down for anything.

Chase has me at 820 and Experian at 821.

They randomly dropped by like 19 points last month despite no changes to my spending habits so I'm glad to see them back up again.

I dont really ever check. It comes up a lot here though. I raised my credit card limit in January to buy some home theatre gear and I wanted the reward points rather than just paying cash. They ran it then at my bank and it was well over 800. Its been over 800 for decades and Ive never done anything special.

The only time Ive taken notice of it was like 4 times over the last 20+ years. I dont do any of the tricks and methods people talk about. Ive always just paid my bills and never paid a penny in interest on a credit card. I treat it like cash and Ive always eliminated any debt as fast as possible when it came to mortgage and vehicle loan.

I remember in 2013 when I got my truck loan at the time the lady made the comment that I had the 2nd highest number she had ever seen. I really dont understand how. All I ever had was a mortgage and at the time 2 vehicle loans in my life. Not really anything out of the ordinary. Everyone makes house and vehicle payments.

No. I have never made a vehicle payment. Paid cash for every new car.

My score is 821. Only thing is credit cards (house was paid off a few years ago). But overall I do have a lot of available credit from the credit cards.
I would probably need to go buy a new car to get mine back above 800. Usually hovering around 790.

Well not literally everyone. Clearly by context I was pointing out it wasnt abnormal and that it is quite common. I also would now pay cash but when I was younger Id take out a vehicle loan, in fact when I was 23 I specifically took out a loan just to establish credit rather than pay cash and lets be real here its super common for most working people to have house/vehicle payments. I mean tens of millions of millions of people do that.

When I say everyone makes house payments its obvious Im talking about it being a common thing. One person coming in and saying I bought my house in cash doesnt invalidate that. So yeah making a house and a vehicle payment isnt anything extraordinary that makes me wonder why in the hell would my credit score stand out to someone as being really high. I was doing the same thing millions and millions of others do.

804 but it's meaningless number for me since I don't really finance anything.

I mean I use a credit card and pay it off immediately which I guess counts.

Yeah I thought it'll be hurtful signing up for tons of credit cards.

And 760 is already good enough to get the best loans.

I signed up for 3 this August. Barely dinged me. But I have almost 30 years of history and total credit line around 200k. So I never use a large % per month.

Living paycheck to paycheck is super common for a lot of Americans. Our society tries its best to manipulate people into overspending and keeping up with the Joneses. Living in unsustainable debt is the American way.

Also, a lot of people with high credit scores probably just outright buy cars, or outright lease them if they are really rich.

I don't even have an 800 credit score and will probably just outright buy my next car to replace the one I've been driving for over 20 years (unless of course there is a super low or 0% interest deal).

Yeah, anything above that is essentially just running up the score. Kind of makes me wonder why there are 100 extra points in the system that don't really mean anything.
