Likely the opposite actually. Moderate swing voters are switching back to Dems after being reminded GOP bad, but they'll forget again once bad things stop happening.

I feel like with the Trump campaign's focus on NJ during last year's election and NJ getting scarily close to flipping despite being a consistent solid blue state for presidential elections, that I figured they would've used the NJ governor race as a test run for election interference, but I guess they forgot or are not interested in test runs.

Hoping for the best.

Bad things will continue to happen as long as Trump is in office, but yes, these carp-brained morons will instantly forget about all the problems Republicans cause if/when Republicans are ever out of power again.

Awesome to see, but was mostly expected. Ever since Trump's first win there's been a pretty well established track record regarding how MAGA performs when it's on the ballot and Trump isn't.

This is why they're pretty adamant about having Trump on the 2028 ballot. He is practically the only one right now that is getting any sort of headwind at the executive level. I truly don't think as long as Democrats put up a halfway decent candidate there's anyone else on the Republican side that has the sway to carry a national election right now, and the lack of Trump could 100% impact downballot.

I still think a semi-sane Republican could be stronger than Trump. But anyone even remotely as bad as he is (including Vance) is weaker.

That's why I'm hopeful the whole thing comes crumbling down if Trump doesn't end up on another ballot.

GOP policies are incredibly unpopular when they aren't coming directly out of Trump's mouth.

There is no constituency for a semi-sane Republican. Trump has given the GOP base the red meat they have wanted for the last 50+ years, and now no substitute will be accepted.

The problem is all the semi-sane Republicans are getting run out of the tent and being labeled RINO. Massie, Murkowski, Collins, Ernst, they're all being treated as not true Republicans and it's getting picked up on because they're having the gall to question some of Trump's policies. Not even all of them, just the ridiculous ones that any reasonable soul would see as out there and wrong.

Yeah, while I do think the base would fall in line and turnout for someone like Rubio in the general, they probably would never pick him in a primary.

Yup. The problem is any candidate the Republicans put up has to double-down on Trumpism to even have a shot (election fuckery notwithstanding). They can't close the lid on the monster they created and pretend like the last 10+ years of politics didn't happen; there is no return to "sanity" for them without losing a huge chunk of the base they galvanized.

But the thing is, so far, Trump himself is the only one who's been able to successfully pull off being Trump. MAGA doesn't even care about Trump's policies so much as they care about the idea, personality and branding of Trump. But it's also completely authentic to who he is. Anybody that tries to replicate it just comes across as a cheap imitation, as Ron DeSantis learned.

If exit polls and trends make it 90-99% certain they'll do it. They call non-competitive races the moment they close, often times

Because they can make decent predictions about what areas will vote which way and see if those areas are over/underperforming previous elections and extrapolate from there.

For example there may only be 28% showing but if that is all from a red part of the state and it's more purple than expected and there are still heavy blue areas uncounted, they have a pretty good idea that the rest of the vote will be heavily blue.

You can usually call it based on where the votes are. E.g. a lot of the vote may be way out but if only vote sinks exist in certain areas, it's over.
