Can it be any adventure game or does it have to have VN elements? Whatever, I will just say Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

It can be any Adventure game including point-and-click games like Grim Fandango or even Adventure/Puzzle games like Professor Layton.

Basically any type of Adventure game or VN would qualify.

This is tougher than I thought. Quick ranking is probably:

999
Ever17
Danganronpa 2
Ace Attorney 3
Fate
The Walking Dead

Most of those could shift around quite easily though.

Have only seen the anime for Clannad and Steins so I don't know if there's major differences for the VN. Own but haven't played Life is Strange, bought Umineko recently but haven't started it yet. Everything on that list I've played/watched is definitely a 9/10 or higher though.
.
I think it's between Umineko, Clannad, and F/SN depending on my mood

could see Higurashi up there too by the time I finish

My top 3 are on this list: Umineko remains my favorite, but Ever17 and Steins;Gate aren't too far behind. In terms of great VNs not on the list I'm also a big fan of Higurashi and Rewrite.

The Western entries I haven't gotten into at all really. Maybe someday.
Just killing time until the world ends.
Of the ones I played

999 >>> LiS > (other Zero Escapes) >> Walking Deads >>>>> Ever17 >(>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>)x100> DR2

2 + 2 = 4
Until Dawn, Phantasmagoria, Clock Tower, Life is Strange, and Hotel Dusk would be my top 5.

Of what I played:

F/SN > TWD1 > uh PW1 > DR1 > Ever 17
My official Top 20 Adventure/VN games (I barely played any pure VNs to be fair though)

01. The Walking Dead
02. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
03. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
04. Life is Strange
05. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
06. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
07. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice
08. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
09. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
10. Heavy Rain
11. Last Window: The Secret of Cape West
12. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies
13. Zero Time Dilemma
14. The Secret of Monkey Island
15. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
16. L.A. Noire
17. Fate/Stay Night
18. Hotel Dusk: Room 215
19. Grim Fandango
20. Beyond: Two Souls
My top tier of VN's is Ever17, Higurashi, and The House in Fata Morgana.

There's a pretty good chance Clannad and Steins;Gate would be there as well if I had actually read the VN's. I loved the anime adaptations though.

Out of the ones in the poll:

PW3 > LiS > 999 > DR2 > TWD

I got Umineko for Black Friday on Steam, soon I will be able to see if the hype is justified

Get the PS3 sprites + voices patch for Umineko or else the Steam version isn't that hype imo.

And yeah, I've played or at least watched a good deal of every game on the list and there are some damn good ones. I love 999 and LiS, but Umineko changed aspects of me as a person. It taught me to be more critical and pay attention to details in other works of fiction. I just don't know if it changed me for the better or the worse.

Steins;Gate, easily

TWD, AA3, and F/SN are all really good though
