unfortunately I don't have an FFIX character account to post with so I'll just have to vote and talk about how you Anagram'd by leaving off Marcus/Cinna/Blank

Like I'm going to waste space on those three hahaha don't make me laugh
"Piece of cake!"

Marcus, Cinna, and Blank are all taken

Amarant and Eiko are not

the defense rests Your Honor
You'd just need to remove two others from the poll to fit them. Leon surely wouldn't have minded removing Zidane and Vivi for those three.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
Hahaha only lowly mongrels would use those accounts whereas true nobility -- kingship! -- reserves the right to use...

...I can't really finish that sentence, especially not for Eiko

here's a worthwhile recent essay that talks about a point of strength from ff9

I disagree with the author's insinuation that FF6's portrayal of motherhood is well-done, but I concur with their assertion that it's a.) needed more in the franchise and in gaming at-large; b.) refreshing that Terra finds the "meaning of love" not through romantic attraction to a man but by a less-often explored definition.

Finished the article now. I definitely agree with the author on 9.

I don't agree with the author on 6 or 9.

Terra is never constrained by her motherhood role; rather, her choice to be a caring mother empowers her and instills strength in her character.

on the contrary, for a sizable chunk of the game, she decides to huddle in the orphanage and take care of the kids while everyone else is out saving the world. there's a pretty strong implication that she's too neurotic/unstable/weak (emotionally) to fight alongside the others, so that's why she relegates herself to the role of mother. it's not a particularly empowering take on motherhood.

obviously Terra does snap out of it eventually, but I can't really give her props for that, since it's what the rest of the party was doing to begin with.

Brahnes escape pod reaches a beach, where she soon dies after Garnet finds her. She passes away in Garnets arms, but before doing so she apologizes for all the pain she caused not just to the world, but also to her daughter. Garnet, despite resenting her mother for all the destruction she has caused, deeply mourns the death of her motherand its one of the most touching scenes in the entire franchise.

I'm not sold on this either - I didn't find the scene particularly touching. Brahne was evil (in a cartoonish, non-nuanced fashion) and a deathbed repentance isn't going to suddenly make me feel sorry for her. I don't think one brief scene can retroactively make their relationship nuanced; it's just out of character.
You put your RESOLVE HAT back on, which conveniently is the same hat as your NORMAL HAT.
{Drakeryn}
Yeah, FFIX never sold me on Brahne being a tragic figure and a good mother. The whole "I was being controlled!" stuff is always weak, but even then, it implies that all that stuff was in her to begin with. Kuja just drew it out of her and took advantage of it.

Dagger mourns for her mother because she's her mother. I think there's something to be said about the bond between parents and children in a way that transcends things like right and wrong, but not about Brahne being a good mother figure.
I don't agree with the implication that Brahne is suddenly sympathetic. But I do appreciate the game for tackling the unfortunate but real scenarios of toxicity in parent/child relationships.

"We're good to go!"
