thinking of getting another pokemon game for my wife (and me). she played sw/sh and liked it and enjoyed hanging out in the wild area.

i'm torn between let's go pikachu/eevee and scarlet/violet. i understand LGP/E would be more akin to RBY which is more up my alley, but is it worse from a quality of life perspective than sw/sh? like worse graphics, more tedium, etc? does it have "hangout" activities? my wife tends to like those

for S/V - is it still a hideously buggy mess? is there enough guidance in the "storyline"? is it fun to play and is there non-battling stuff to hang out and do?

I'm a fan of the Let's Go games but I wouldn't describe it like a traditional mainline game. It's a nostalgic recreation with Pokemon Go mechanics

Definitely a bigger fan of S/V tho, like yeah it has performance issues but the game is just very much fun that it's well worth it. Story-wise the game is actually handled really well, it's open-world sure and you can go to whichever gym or whatever you want, but what the game does really well is provide you with 3 different storylines to follow. There's a story for fighting Titan Pokemon, a story for taking down the traditional enemy team (characterized very well for the series, it's a pretty relatable gang of rebellious misfits), and another for becoming the Champion until they all kind of come together.

For non-battling stuff, it's absolutely the best game for raising Pokemon and catching shinies because you can manipulate every kind of stats/abilities/natures/etc about them so whichever Pokemon you catch or obtain, even shinies, can ultimately be built perfectly competitive.

The biggest shit thing S/V does is completely gut out the clothing options we've had for the past few games, although it does have very good character face customization.

Let's Go is basically a toned down game with simplified mechanics, primarily targeted at non video game players.

SV is a regular Pokemon game.

You should be able to base your decision on this according to your wife's needs.

Alternatively ditch both of them and get New Pokemon Snap.

SV are my favorite Pokemon games since gen 5 because the bugs didn't bother me much or impact my experience. If that bothers you, get Arceus instead.

If she enjoyed hanging out the wild area, is Legends Arceus an option? That's basically all that.

Also, don't sleep on New Pokemon Snap either.
Still the number one reason for the success of the Internet.

New Pokemon Snap is the best Pokemon game on the Switch

I recommend against Let's Go Eevee/Pikachu, it's so easy and simplified
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify
Is Legends Arceus out of the question?

Yes, it's still an RPG with a standard linear story. It has big open areas, but it's not fully open world like S/V. You have a hub town, and you go from area to area, doing stuff for characters and fighting boss Pokemon. The game is a mix of turn-based battles and action combat against some of the boss Pokemon (plus you can throw Poke Balls or attack items at Pokemon outside of the turn-based combat, and many Pokemon will try to attack the player directly).

It has less emphasis on trainer battles, but there's still some of them mixed in. The turn-based combat is also not the same as a traditional Pokemon RPG, with turn order being different and the addition of strong and agile styles, that change a move's effects or speed.
Change is weird.
Lets go - fine i guess
Sword/shield - bad
New pokemon snap - fine i guess
scarlet/violet - bad

legends arceus - legit great

Scarlet and Violet are the funnest of the Switch Pokemon games by a lot. They have some bugs, but they're not that bad, just be sure to save and restart the game occasionally.
