I have no respect for any outlet that would expose their readers to a scam advertisement. In this case, I was reading an article about fat women stealing shoes from Burlington when my browser was redirected to another site and I got a popup claiming to be my antivirus software stopping a bunch of viruses. I'm familiar enough with tech support scams to know that it wasn't my software, so I closed the popup and the browser tab. Then I ran my own virus scan to make sure I hadn't gotten infected from the fake website.

I tried to be a good sport about this and warn the original website, but their "Contact" link didn't work. Fuck them, I unsubscribed.

What really pisses me off is that not everyone is wise to tech support scams, and this site likely draws an older audience that's completely clueless. I'd warn you lot against visiting, but I doubt anyone here visits the site.

The fandom mobile site for a long while had a scam forced redirect. I could only browse that site in desktop mode.

Huh. OK, it was The Blaze. I was only subscribed because I was a Glenn Beck fan years ago and I just never bothered to cancel. I don't have the link anymore, but it's probably up there somewhere.

My cousin works on the local trains for our local public transportation service. His dad worked for them on and off for a while, and he really got into trains at some point, so I guess it's a good fit.

As someone who works in the industry, whatever other site you went to is probably working with the same ad provider, and said ad provider hasn't blocked that particular malicious ad yet

Websites don't generally curate their ads ever. Ad providers don't always filter out malicious ads. Thus,
