I don't take typical vacations so I do take extended weekends for 2-3 releases a year

Not explicitly, but I've definitely arranged my schedule to be advantageous. Given that I don't have a traditional 9-5, that's not too far off from being the same thing.
Only the exceptions can be exceptional.

Never a random day, but Pokemon Sword/Shield came out during the normal period at the end of the year when I regularly took a vacation using my leftover hours, so I scheduled the first day of vacation to start on release day.

Still voted No on the poll because I would have been taking that vacation regardless of the game.

For me, it was Persona 5, and I told my boss exactly why I wanted that day off. And I got it.

Don't regret it. Spent 8 hours having a great time in that game. Would do it again if I live to see another job.
Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered!

recently for Arceus, S/V, and FF16

I don't use a ton of vacation days throughout the year so it's as good of a reason as any

edit: actually for Arceus I had to stay home and wait for the gas company to come fix something so that was just a coincidence

No but I planned a 1-week vacation around the time FF7R came out, but it ended up falling through, so I just sat at home playing that game about 8 hours a day. It was great.

one time, senior year of high school, for Halo 2. wouldn't do it again.
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify

Only because someone managed to brick a vital server at work the day before LittleBigPlanet 2 came out, and I decided that since we wouldn't be able to do any work the following day anyway, I'd take it off and play the game.

Yes, in 2 instances I can recall, took 2 days off when Mario Kart Wii and FF7 Remake were released. Thursday-Friday for the former and Monday-Tuesday for the latter.

FF7 Rebirth comes out on a Thursday so I'm strongly considering taking a whole week off for that, but at a minimum would be two days.

Not really. I've faked illness for avoidance of classes or other obligations but never explicitly so I could play a game. Playing whatever games I was interested in at the time was usually what I did with the extra time, though.

check that, I took a day off work almost 10 years ago to play FIFA World Cup all day :)
