Board 8 » Most Evil Fictional Character FINAL: Davros vs. Yawgmoth
Welcome to the 2023 edition of Most Evil Fictional Character, a single-elimination tournament to determine the most evil fictional character of all time!

Here's the bracket:

https://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=477621&tclass=

And here's the discussion topic:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80568652

And here are the rules:

-First and foremost, YOU MUST BOLD YOUR VOTE FOR IT TO COUNT . The reason for this is that these topics encourage a lot of discussion and debate, and it helps me to distinguish a vote from simple discussion if all votes are bolded. So, I state again, ALL VOTES MUST BE BOLDED FOR THEM TO COUNT . I reserve the right to be lenient in early topics if people just aren't getting it, but for the most part, IF YOUR VOTE ISN'T BOLDED, IT WON'T COUNT.

-You must vote for which of the two characters you honestly believe to be the more evil of the two. You can determine this via any method you like, use your own morals and judgement, read all the arguments made to determine your choice, or however you choose to make your pick, but you must only vote for the one you truly believe is the most evil. This isn't a death battle, or a popularity contest. You're voting ONLY for the most evil character out of the two choices presented.

-While on that subject, remember that because this isn't a death battle or a fighting tournament, do your absolute best to consider the two characters as if their power levels were equal (either the weaker character brought up to the level of the strongest, or vice versa, or both if you want to consider both possibilities). Therefore, just because, for example, one of the characters blew up a planet and the other one merely kicked a puppy, doesn't necessarily mean the planet killer is more evil than the puppy kicker. Consider the characters as if they have the exact same capabilities and what they might do in that scenario.

-You can make any arguments, debates, etc. you want in this topic. Discussion is STRONGLY encouraged, a fun debate about which of the two characters is most evil is exactly what these topics are for. No insults or flaming, keep things civil even if you disagree. Also, no vote rallying, if you want to encourage people to vote for your character you need to at least make some semblance of an argument as to why, even if it's just "Character X did (dastardly thing), I can't believe no one's voting for them!"

-Voting will continue for 24 hours. If there's a tie, there will be a new 24 hour topic. This will continue indefinitely until winner is determined.

- YOU MUST BOLD YOUR VOTE FOR IT TO COUNT.

DAVROS

Davros is a major antagonist in the Doctor Who television series and specials.

Davros, often referred to by his creations as the Creator and also known as the Dark Lord of Skaro, was originally the head of the Kaled Scientific Elite on the planet Skaro, but he became better known as the creator of the Daleks. He also made alterations of his own to the Dalek genome, filtering out qualities Davros deemed "weak" to make his creations the ultimate warriors. Davros refused to listen to the Doctor when he begged him to make the Daleks peaceful creatures of good, rather than the evil exterminators they would become. The results of his attempts to bring the war on Skaro to an end were not as he envisioned, because the Daleks wiped out both the Thal and Kaled races, save for himself. Davros survived the centuries, using whatever medical assistance was available to sustain his life. For a time, he sought to create a race of Daleks loyal to him, which led to the Imperial-Renegade Civil War, where he served as Emperor of the loyal Daleks, and later of the Dalek race as a whole. In the hundred years leading up to the Earth year 2254, Davros and the Daleks witnessed the human race advance their scientific knowledge to the point of becoming a threat. Ultimately, Davros decided that this problem needed to be rectified and so launched an invasion of Earth, intending to turn it into a Dalek production planet. Davros genetically tested a group of humans. Modifying their brains to remove their emotions of compassion, love and pity, Davros converted them into drones; as such, these drones were, like the Daleks, Davros's children. As the Daleks continued their 23rd century bombardment of the Earth colony of Phobos, Drone 77 and Drone 69, formerly a human male and female respectively, were questioned by Davros. When they behaved in a fashion indicating disgust for him, both moving away when he went to touch them, and demonstrated fear by seeking comfort in each other's arms, Davros ordered their extermination.Through his creations, many came to consider him responsible for trillions of deaths and innumerable wars across the universe. Davros had a sound mind early in his life, but the incident that crippled him and his overall experiences in the Thal-Kaled war left him a depraved and insane megalomaniac. He became tyrannical and ruthless, tolerating no opposition to his will and dismissing fairness and democracy as "the creeds of cowards". He did not believe the Daleks were evil, instead believing they would bring peace by becoming the sole life-forms of the universe; he believed different species could not peacefully co-exist, so believed the utter extermination of all other races was the only way the Daleks could succeed at bringing peace. He was one of the Doctor's greatest enemies, rivalling the Master in both intellect and madness. The Twelfth Doctor described Davros as "an insane, paranoid genius who [had] survived amongst several billion trigger-happy mini-tanks for centuries".

YAWGMOTH

Yawgmoth is a major antagonist in the Magic: The Gathering franchise.

Yawgmoth was the god and perfector of the Phyrexian race. Originally human, in his early life, he was a medical genius of the ancient Thran Empire known for his highly controversial solutions to medical ailments. Yawgmoth was born in the last century of the ancient Thran Empire, during a highly politicized conflict between the artificer-aligned elite imperialists and the eugenicist-aligned republican rabble. Due to his fascination with the human body and his view that it was a marvelous machine, Yawgmoth became a champion of the eugenicist faction. During his exile , Yawgmoth journeyed the globe, visiting many different civilizations in his ruthless, cold-hearted pursuit of knowledge. During this time, he committed many atrocities, of which the following are known: he set the Black Cough upon the dwarves of Oryn Deeps, inciting a workers' rebellion that nearly killed the dwarven king and ended 1,000 years of dwarven rule, he turned the Creeping Mold of Argoth into a virulent plague that ate away the elves there, he also kidnapped their priest Elyssendril Lademmdrith and her healers, ordering the elves to pay ransom for their leader and the cure she had developed for the plague. When the elves paid, he delivered to them only sweetened water and 12 dead healers. He set the White Death upon the minotaurs of Talruum, just to study its effects, he infected the leaders of the cat people nations with rabies, after which they tore each other to pieces, he poisoned the human tribes of Gulatto Meisha, and he pithed and vivisected the Bey of the Shivan Viashino. Yawgmoth's exile would be revoked and he returned to Thran, which started a massive war between Thran and the civilizations Yawgmoth had experimented on during his exile. He would eventually trick a planeswalker named Dyfed into creating a portal to Phyrexia for him, and would bind himself to the plane, ruling it as its god and taking sick patients there in order to mutate them into his own personal army. When Dyfed was stunned at the horror Phyrexia had become, he stabbed her in the back of the head with a powerstone dagger, disabling the planeswalker, hoping to dissect her and learn what she had that enabled her to planeswalk. Rebbec removed the powerstone however, mercy-killing Dyfed. Yawgmoth would come to be trapped within Phyrexia, but thousands of years later, he would launch an invasion of Dominaria, attempting to conquer the plane for his own vile purposes and causing the deaths of many in the process.

Leaning Yawgmoth. Something about creating tons of plagues feels intrinsically fucked up to me. Gonna blame the pandemic for that fresh bit of trauma!
It's Reyn Time.
Now this is a close fight, since both of them have the power, hatred, and overall do it because I can mentality.. it's a hard decision. Can we get an additional 24 for thinking, arguments, and thanksgiving reasons?
I think I go Yawgmoth here. Definitely on a similar level of scale and genocidal ideation, but his methods feel a little more maniacal

Yawgmoth . He appears around Davros level in scale while not needing war trauma to start him towards evil, being more perverse in his methods, and not entertaining any form of bullshit about how his actions will totally bring about some sort of peace. It's completely for "SCIENCE BITCH" to him from the looks of it. That and from his description he also mixed in some acts of personal dickery too.

Davros

Both are very twisted. But as far as I can tell Yawgmoth is more of a moral sociopath. He wants to improve life, his methods are just really twisted and cruel. Davros on the other hand wants to wipe out all life in the multiverse except for the Daleks, leaving him as the supreme ruler of a fascistic race of his own creation, lacking entirely in empathy by design . He didn't accidently leave out empathy. He did it on purpose. And he has a complete desire to wipe out all life in the multiverse. To say that he wants peace would be akin to saying Hitler just wanted peace by killing all the jews, gays, and pretty much anyone else who didn't fit the description of his perfect aryan race.

Davros definitely has the ambition to match Yawgmoth. He builds a reality bomb, capable of wiping out all life in the multiverse except for his daleks. He only fails because he's up against The Doctor. Davros has a special hate for all life that isn't Dalek. He would never seek to improve other races, he would only seek to destroy them and wipe them out entirely. He made them a race that could do only one thing: Hate. Imagine for a moment what such a world would be like, where only Daleks who only know hate, what that would become. And that's why I vote Davros here. Because we already see Daleks targeting other Daleks over less pure genetics. To do anything less would simply not be Dalek enough. So even in his idealized perfect world, there would still be racism and hate and war. And I don't think Davros would have it any other way.

Yawgmoth

He builds up to Davros level atrocities on scale from nothing, has no perverse sense of righteousness behind it (could see a scenario where Davros could be reasoned out of total extermination), and has personal gross torture stuff too. He also has the "literal corrupting force of evil after death" going for him.

Davros is just outclassed here
No problem!
This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
Davros
Yawgmoth

Yawgmoth was just a "normal" guy who built himself up methodically to becoming a grand cosmic evil. It was about science, sure, but the end goal of that science was political power, physical power, and worship -- all for himself.

I had forgotten this until now, but he also courted a woman while he was trying to "help" her ailing husband. He was actually making said husband's ailment worse and worse, then attempted to steal the husband's latent Planeswalker Spark in order to become one of said godlike beings artificially. It's implied that his conquest against Dominaria, besides all of his grandiose evil, is partially inspired as revenge against the woman who spurned him once she realized the truth of what he was doing. Petty evil and grand evil simultaneously, so potent that his corpse is a wound in the multiverse, and his infectious legacy had to be completely isolated from space and time to contain it.

You don't get much more evil than that.

There is literally a point where the Doctor tries to reason Davros out of total extermination and he goes naw. Twice even, once hypothetical and another time when he actually attempts it.

Davros is no stranger to manipulating people or generating plagues either. Not to mention how what he built was a race that continues to terrorise the universe even without it.

YAWGMOTH

I don't even need to read the writeups on these two. Love Doctor Who, love MtG. What Yawgmoth set in motion goes beyond our typical notion of universal genocide. And the methods used to achieve that goal are far more sadistic than simple extermination. It's not good enough to kill anyone that stands in the way of Yawgmoth's vision of perfection. No. Those who stand in defiance of his "progress" must be compleated . Corrupted, to their core, to do the opposite of everything they once believed in. If Davros is space Hitler, Yawgmoth is multidimensional Mengele. He didn't just give commands, he got his hands dirty doing the deed. Multiple worlds weren't just destroyed by him and his ideology, they were tortured into becoming a mirror of his ambition.
Existence. Existence is but shallow question with no answer. Buu make you chicken nuggies!
I didn't know who either of these characters was before the contest but going by the arguments that have been made throughout the contest it seems like they're similar characters but Yogmoth is clearly worse.

In thinking on it, it's impressive how similar they are, both in life and death.

I'm just going to go with Davros although it could have just easily flipped on another day.

Only the exceptions can be exceptional.
thanks for the extension, even though i, rather selfishly, i suppose, wasn't really that busy yesterday and simply forgot to show up LOL

anyway, im going with yawgmoth here, even though these two are cut from the same cloth for sure.

maybe it is because doctor who strives to be relatively family friendly, but i feel as though yawgy is more raw and sadistic than davros with his cruelty outright. and the fact that he was so horrible even when he was "just" normal also seals it to me!
