Continuing from my Stormblood playthrough earlier this year

SPOILER RULES
  1. A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood spoilers are fine
  2. Please use spoiler tags for any Shadowbringers spoilers I haven't gotten to yet. But if I already got to the spoiler, its fine
  3. Use spoiler tags for Endwalker spoilers, and label them above the tags saying theyre from Endwalker so I know not to click them

I have to say this whole concept of the Light slowly overtaking this entire world is pretty damn cool

So yeah i decided to go down Alisaes path first

Shes been helping a girl named Tesleen maintain a camp for people infected by the sin eaters

Then Tesleen gives a heartfelt speech about how her mom got infected many years ago, with some somber piano music playing in the background. Whole thing felt very Final Fantasy honestly.

And THEN we go to help someone whos infected, sin eaters attack, and Tesleen gets infected, and becomes a twisted looking sin eater herself, all while Alisae looks on in horror

hell of a way to set the tone, god damn

Did you do all the stormblood postgame stuff already leading up to it when you were playing before so you are starting off entering the First? IE all that stuff with the war with the empire and THROW WIDE THE GATES snatchin scions up?

I beat Stormblood on August 5 of this year, so im good i think

i also take extensive notes between expansions to help me keep up

like i have all this in a notepad:

Wrario of Darkness was deceived by ascians to flood reflection 1 with light, minfilia stopped it, seven reflections are dead,

13th is taken by darkness, and he wants to use our world to bring his back into balance, but hydaelien sent him on his way (he dead)

13 worlds, 7 died, only 6 remain

everything dealing with eulmore is amazing

I love that a bunch of rich people just decided fuck it lets go party and live it up before the world ends. And then theres a slum at the bottom of the town where people gather, desperately trying to get into the city

And anyone the rich people dont like they just throw out into the ocean lmao

Its so crazy and yet so believable. Shadowbringers is on fire right out the gate

Fun fact about Shadowbringers: it was primarily written by Natsuko Ishikawa.

The first thing she wrote for FF14 was the Dark Knight quest line in Heavensward. You probably didn't play it, but it was very highly-regarded when it came out and is still easily the best class quest writing in the game.

Stormblood comes around. Its plot has a mixed reception, but most people can agree that the highlight was the Azim Steppe section - which happened to be written by Natsuko Ishikawa. After the success of the Dark Knight quest line, she got promoted to writing for larger chunks of the main story.

After that success, she gets promoted again and became the lead writer for Shadowbringers overall. The result was...

Well, spoiler alert: she stayed on as the lead writer for Endwalker.

I like 6.0 more than 5.0, but taking the .x into consideration for both and viewing it in a vacuum rather than as part of a whole, I am confident in saying that Shadowbringers is my favorite Final Fantasy game.

azim steppe was definitely a highlight yeah. Also featured my favorite fight in the game so far, which was Sadu. That was the moment i finally had to git gud and add a second crossbar

Tesleen is definitely the "Welcome the Norvrandt" moment, they manage to make a more tragic character in 30 minutes than most games can do in their entire runtime.

The king dude is the best tho. He feeds people to sin eaters? Thats so metal. He's got half naked sin eater girls laying around him, and ones petting a sin eater lion. It's all just so badass

You can tell there was supposed to be a lot more to him that got cut for time. And even then he's not bad, but he is definitely a miss by comparison.

All his best interactions are with Thancred and Ryne, which I guess makes sense since they have more history together, but he's a half-baked antagonist for the WoL.

also Lyna is cool. Cool accent, cool design, cool personality. Dont even need to know her backstory yet and she already wins on rule of cool

Did you do the dungeon with NPCs? I highly recommend it for your first run in all of them. They personalized each NPC's styles and reactions to certain mechanics.

Nah, my wife is a hardcore FF14 fan, and we put two tvs in the living room and do all the dungeons together. She actually wont even let me do the MSQ without her because she wants to experience Shadowbringers all over again lol

And besides, its a multiplayer game, so i wanna play with real people anyway. The two randos we just played with were pretty wholesome too. They were like enjoy the story!! Lol. This community is so good

Although it's recommended to do Duty Support/Trust if you're doing a dungeon for the first time, you don't really have to.

There are two duties in Endwalker though that you will definitely want to use it.

Personally, I had a bad time every time I used Trusts, including those ones in Endwalker. Playing with the AI just feels bad.
