This Cocoon game that apparently exists seems to have replaced it.

Still a bit weird that I've never seen the apparent indie game of the year even once and have no idea what it looks like, but I guess that's onme. You'd think there'd be SOME osmosis from SOMEWHERE, though.

Still more of a real video game than Dead Island 2 which is definitely not something that came out.

its a game pass game that is in that Journey esque atmosphere vibe like the Limbo/Inside games that the creators worked on previously where the aesthetic is what drives the game

I think its just more evident that there was no clear front runner like there was other years? At least not enough to knock out any of the 8 or so major releases

FF16 should've been in yesterday's poll- the Winter poll was Jan-Mar releases, Spring was Apr-June, today is Jul-Sept. Though of course there's Live a Live's port and Disgaea 7 getting its Japanese release date. Whoever's in charge of these GotY polls has been making some strange decisions with what is and isn't included, but FF16 is easily the most baffling omission for GameFAQs!

And 2022's best indie game was Tunic imo

Cocoon is a fantastic puzzle game and one of my favorite games I played last year. If you like puzzle games at all, you really should play it.

All that said, FF16 not making GotY polls on this site is absurd.

Cocoon is okay, but definitely a step down from Limbo and Inside. It's hardly the consensus best indie of 2023.

I prefer Cocoon to Limbo and Inside. Inside's story is better, but I like everything else about Cocoon more. I wish it had more difficult puzzles, but still greatly enjoyed my experience with it.

Cocoon was everywhere in the month it was coming out. Not sure how you could miss it.

It's also totally useless as a puzzle game and is also mostly missing the narrative of the previous games, so you can skip it.
