He was also working on a spiritual successor, Eiyuden Chronicle, which is slated to be released on April 23 this year.

Rest in peace.

i wasn't sure if i would or not but i'll probably try to get eiyuden some time this year after all now
That was a sad email to wake up to this morning. I haven't been engaged in the development of Eiyuden Chronicle even though I supported it on Kickstarter and am in the discord, but I still enjoyed reading the monthly updates and was excited by the prospect of a new series coming to be. I'm very excited for EC and hope it is a fitting end to his legacy.

Dang

I spent several years trying to get a copy of Suikoden 2 for a not outrageous price after I got Suikoden 1. Even though I haven't played the rest of the series, I always felt I was connected to it in some way

Terrible news; Eiyuden Chronicles has been something I've looked forward to for quite some time now, and even moreso now that I know it will be the last legacy of Murayama.

Now that i have time to make a real post, man i used to be so obsessed with suikoden. That was my childhood, boi. I got every star in 1-5, would watch the intros over and over, would come to gamefaqs and discuss suikoden v when it dropped and obsess over the missable characters and lore

Suikoden really made me appreciate a story thats grounded in reality and human endeavor. Instead of having a convoluted world and plot like a lot of other jrpgs, it was just a political war drama with a billion characters all struggling to make their country a better place. Later on in life I got obsessed with game of thrones, and i made a dnd campaign where the players had to recruit a bunch of npcs to win a war, and i think i owe all that to suikoden.

So yeah, thank you yoshitaka muriyama for creating something genuinely new in a genre that can often feel pretty samey, and just for inspiring me for life. Ive been listening to the suikoden osts all morning, and ill be there day 1 for eiyuden (as if that was ever an option lol)

suikoden was my favourite series growing up - championed in the schoolyard, got several people to play it, visited suikosource and suikox on the reg, i even mostly ended up sticking around here because of kenrmcha's save my suikoden character.

Yeah this really sucks to hear, especially only 2 months out from Eiyuden.

Similarly, while I enjoyed the likes of Final Fantasy and other series, Suikoden always meant more to me than those. It was probably the first RPG series I really fell in love with, and in some ways I've always been chasing something that hits the same as it did.

I hope Eiyuden finds immeasurable success and if there is some kind of afterlife, he's able to see it from there. RIP.

I remember that save my contest. I think I actually was credited on a suikosource guide for suikoden 4 growth rates.

Speaking of old time GameFAQs and Suikoden, I hope TenkoStar is doing good.

I remember the save my Suikoden character contests that we did. Those were pretty fun.

Yeah, I saw that news - both in my email and on Discord - and was just shattered. The worst part is that he won't get to see how much we love Eiyuden. RIP to a legend.

Suikoden II is a top 10 game for me, and I didn't play it until like 2019. Shows how great he was at making a game that has impact no matter when it's played.

I'll play Eiyuden immediately upon release. I'd do a Suikoden II playthrough now, but I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow.... maybe this calls for me to find my PSP and play it on that?
