It's gone through several eras already, I guess this is the next one. Other sites do good games journalism now though so it's a better scene overall.

This definitely seems like the moment it fully becomes a zombie site like Deadspin did. You have to assume anyone there now is heavily considering getting out.

You have to wonder if they want Kotaku to make guides so badly why Prima isn't still around.
This signature won't change until Chrono Trigger gets a re-release on a modern Nintendo console.

The most likely candidate they're trying to copy here is IGN, actually - almost every "x guide" google search leads to them first, so it probably leads to tons of traffic.
:)
The replies there is like toxic swamp.

But yeesh definitely not a good look. Those haters should try applying to Kotaku and make 50 guides a week then.
God has heard my soul.

IGN's guides are (sometimes) pretty good though (at least if it's for a game that's popular enough for them to have put in a real effort)

the kotaku shareholders probably want more of the "ai generate a million articles that have paragraphs and paragraphs of 'Dragon's Dogma 2 is a new RPG released by Capcom, it's the sequel to Dragon's Dogma which came out in 2012, it's an action RPG where you can... <6 paragraphs later> So if you're trying to do the 'Find The Goblin' quest, first you need to go to the town and look for the questgiver. Questgivers have an exclamation mark over their head... <5 paragraphs later> The Goblin is at these coordinates. If you need more help with Dragon's Dogma 2, click these links!"
I'm feeling like this is them trying to get people to quit since I saw that they are expecting 50 guides per week from everyone. Get them to quit, avoid any severance pay that comes with them shutting it down and firing them all. Solid scheme.

I can't say I feel bad for Kotaku burning up. It always seemed like bottom of the barrel schlock in terms of video game news.

I enjoyed Kotaku. Been reading it for 5+ years.
The articles are mostly fine and varied, stuff that you can't really find anywhere else.
And I could even tolerate how extreme left-wing they are.
It's just that they chose to be extra obnoxious and push their propaganda in every single article, no matter how unfitting it was.
Like, I couldn't read a single Mario movie article without them having a full paragraph about "Chris Pratt going to a homophobic church"
And I am like...god damn it I just want to read about the Mario movie and have fun
So about a year ago I finally stopped going there

Hope they finally close down this time
wololo
Kotaku was great for several years. I wasn't a regular reader or anything but whenever I'd see an investigative piece posted or an article from one of the more idiosyncratic staff writers like Tim Rogers, it was good stuff. During that post-clickbait period, they didn't mince words when it came to maintaining a progressive stance, and I appreciated that when so many outlets are unwilling.

Even if you don't like their coverage, it's a shitty thing to see a substantial company collapse and put a lot of people with families out of work. I think rooting for that is pretty fucked up.
Kotaku always got a million times more hate than it deserved.

Even the most annoying bottom-feeding Gamers who practically used it as a slur would still post archive.org links to it, because they consistently broke news before anyone else. Their reviews without scores were great, too.
Hey man nice shot.
Good shot man.

They decided to stop their writers from writing articles and outsourced the majority of their content to those stupid fan lists.

Shame to hear. Sad that G/O Media has crippled or hollowed-out pretty much every site they owned. Deadspin is essentially dead and The AV Club is a pale shadow of what it was.

The info in the tweet is correct but why the hell would you use that piece of shit (Grummz) as your source for anything

To be fair my obliviousness is sometimes extreme with this kind of thing lol. I posted a Stonetoss comic a few months ago having absolutely no idea who the guy was (topical!).

I don't know how any actual website stay in business anymore tbh. Seems like it's all being replaced by aggregators and tik toks. Just changing of the times.
while you slept, the world changed
I've found PowerPyx to be an excellent source of gaming guides, at least for the ones they do cover. All feels like it was written by a human, lots of discussion and responses throughout the comments section of their work. Maybe there's stuff there that's not good though, I don't look at everything. They had a full Persona 3 Reload max Social Link and trophy guide out on day 1, and it was 100% accurate. How do you even do that!

News, I've given up. If it matters Wario64 will tweet about it.

Depends on the series. Yakuza/Like a Dragon has the guides by CyricZ, which are the best guides for the series.
