Jeopardy
Wheel of Fortune
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
Family Feud

Ultimately I have to do this as an American, though I'd love to slot in either Takeshi's Castle or Ninja Warrior as really iconic shows that represent Japan's huge lineage of game shows. Choosing Millionaire over Price because it felt like a way bigger deal at the time, and I think Family Feud has to be on here because the Steve Harvey run is probably the most relevant/contemporary game show of the last decade, unfortunately.
Jeopardy
Wheel of Fortune
Price is Right
Family Feud

First 3 kinda gotta be there. Especially Price, that's such a long running show people's great grandparents have watched it. Like I'd sooner pick it over wheel any day. Family feud is more questionable but yeah, going with longevity.

Fourth probably ought to be Wheel of Fortune, but instead I'm putting respect on the best childhood gameshow there was growing up:

I so wish there was reason to actually vote for this, but sadly if you ask any generation that isn't Millennials (or late Xers), they'd have no idea what you're talking about. The CW reboot failed hard.

Wait, so a show that was a huge deal for a year and a half is preferable to a show that's still going strong after 52 years and has been watched by numerous generations?

not in the US, but it has an absurd number of foreign versions, many of which are still running (though a lot of them also ended, and many of them have been restarted at least once), and also if you want a foreign-starting show the original version was the UK one so I guess there is that

I mean when you put it that way it sounds stupid. I dunno, I guess I grew up in a bubble where nobody cared about The Price Is Right. I've never known anybody who unironically cared about it beyond acknowledging that it's been around forever and its hosts are respected.

Thinking about it, I also associate Millionaire with the more modern style of game show like Deal or No Deal, where it's got a lot of lingering tension. It might have only been in the zeitgeist for a few years but I feel like it was the template for the genre's 21st century incarnation.

See, I don't hear as much about international Millionaire as I have about international Feud. I've seen clips from the Australian and Canadian versions of Feud, whereas I can't recall the last time I've stumbled across something from any Millionaire.

I primarily watch Price and Jeopardy, but still get notifications about Feud and Wheel. I don't know about any international editions of Wheel but know there are several of Price that have come and gone over the years. Jeopardy had a brief UK pilot series earlier this year but that's about the extent of what I know there (there's no Canadian edition because Canadians compete on the US show; this is also true for Price). No clue if that was picked up longer-term.

My mind was mainly going for the US/Canada shows anyway. If I were British, I'd probably have had a very different list.

Millionaire as I mentioned was huge when it started, but I'll give Family Feud the nod for longevity and being much more relevant today . doing research briefly also told me it also has a fuckton of foreign versions (Millionaire might still have more but I don't really care).

Millionaire did deliver with the tension, that's for sure. It definitely helped revive interest in the genre in 1999 - though ABC doing easier questions for the US edition to drive up ratings in that first year (as opposed to being tougher like the British edition) certainly helped.

So I can see your point of view. Thanks for taking the time to explain that. But you can count me as someone who unironically cares about it, and really always has :)

Millionaire absolutely belongs here; the international reach was insane. There's a reason everyone knows the suspense music from the show, the setting alone is iconic. I frankly had no idea what Jeopardy, Family Feud, or The Price Is Right were until I came to America.

Special mention to Supermarket Sweep because it's the most hilarious little thing I've ever seen. Watching people frantically running around a supermarket while bombarded by product placement is an irreplaceable experience.

You sure? I feel like there's barely any competitive reality shows worth putting on a Rushmore. You have to combine the categories if you want any actual debate.

Reality show Rushmore, if not broken up, should be:

Survivor
The Real World
Idols (like American Idol)
The Bachelor

The top omission here would be a food/cooking show, which would be Iron Chef (if it counts?).

Looking back at yesterday's results: Zelda > Mario was objectively a bigger upset than. Vivi > Mario > Ganondorf. I don't fault the occasional fan picks though and I know a lot of people liked seeing Vivi take a big win home, but Mario leeched by Ganondorf didn't shock me too much in that loss.

Zelda beat Mario after already beating Snake, so I think that made it a little less shocking. Vivi had never made it past round two before beating Mario and had never displayed the strength to beat a Noble Niner, even with LFF.

Vivi > Mario had terrible repercussions though because it prevented Squall from doing it and it ensured Red advanced again. Should be disqualified from Rushmore because of that imhotbqh.

Possible, but Mario advancing would have been preferable to Red doing it regardless. Theoretically Mario should have less trouble putting down Red than Ganondorf, but Pokmon is weird like that.

2013 is bad because of Draven but it's all time bad because of the incessant Pokemon rallying.

One match from that contest worth batting an eye at though?

In the same contest Squirtle beat Cloud, Mewtwo beat Sephiroth, and Pikachu with Pokemon Trainer Blue still beat Sora... Mega Man with Zero in the poll still beat Charizard. Mega Man winning there felt like an attempt of salvaging that contest...and while that is not enough to salvage the contest, it was suh-weeeeeeet.

This one has always confounded me.

Though not as much as how anti-Pokemon this board is during contests yet how pro-Pokemon it is under any other circumstances.
