They definitely needed 1 or 2 more episodes like the first season. Did not really feel like a finale episode.

Dumb question and maybe I missed something but why was Otto in what appears to be a prison?

It's the first we've seen of it, but we've been told that there's been fighting in the Reach since Cole murdered the head of one of its noble houses late last season (the Beesburies). We also know that Alicent has been having trouble getting a hold of her father since he left KL.
Change is weird.
This episode felt like an episode 8 of a 10 episode season.

Weak finale. I don't know why they spent 10 minutes character assassinating someone that already got character assassinated this entire season. I can't fucking believe that Alicent on Dragonstone scene was real.

I do however like the Daemon changes. The showrunners connecting this show to GoT and showing the WW threat and Dany was a nice touch. Daemon carried this season.

I hope there will be less fluff next season. I need to see those Stark bannerman in battle. They better not spend 90% of the season on Rhaenyra taking KL and talking with Alicent every other episode asking for advice and forgiveness.

Daemon's overall arc was solid, though it span its wheels for a couple of episodes there
Not to be confused with XIII_Minerals.

It's honestly so weird they're spending so much time on this Rhaena quest. She's barely been a character before this, and it just seems a bit lackluster when Rhaenyra just added three new dragons to her stable. They're building it up is like it's gonna be a big deal, but we currently have little reason to think her getting a dragon is gonna make much of an impact on anything.
Change is weird.

They are merging her with a character they cut out from the books. And in case it wasn't already obvious enough Ulf and Hugh aren't trustworthy in the eyes of almost everyone at that dinner.

Wow, apparently this entire season only covered about 30 pages worth of material.

And you might be thinking 'Well, Fire and Blood isn't like a normal book, so 30 pages might be a lot or it might be a little in terms of events.' But no. Season 1 was 60 pages. The craziest thing is how many scenes were cut down or removed, too. So, like, out of those 30 pages, they didn't even use all of the source material they had available. Mathematically speaking, this season is probably more than half filler. That is some Naruto level filler hell.

hugh catching strays there

ulf is so obviously a villain waiting to happen, but hugh has been a stand-up guy so far

IIRC They cut a lot of stuff but also added a bunch. Almost all the Alicent and Rhaenyra scenes are not in the books. They also cut out another dragonrider. Daemon's hallucinations at Harrenhal never happened, because the Riverlords didn't need convincing in the books, they all declared for Rhaenyra and even the farmers marched in arms.

Jace didn't seem to trust either of them, and only Addam seems to get their approval because I'm guessing they figure he's probably Corlys' bastard but not straight up saying it. It's why Rhaenyra trusted him enough to go to Harrenhal as a backup in the event Daemon turned on her.

Yeah Black Aly and Nettles were both cut, probably the most important things that I noticed. Of course Blood & Cheese was completely different. Replaced with a ton of filler, and padded out the rest of the season with more filler.

it was a reference to the scene where Robb sneaks into King's Landing to have a chat with Joffrey, and beg him not to execute Ned

Rhaenyra and Alicent trying to straighten out their yuribait feelings that lead absolutely nowhere. Kinda like how Robb and Joffrey had that passionate one night stand when Joffrey stay at Winterfell in the beginning of GoT... wait that never happened...

I am so disappointed to read Season 3 isn't even beginning production until sometime next year. I hate the current TV landscape so much.
Change is weird.
i definitely envisioned the show being 4 seasons after reading F&B after season 1.

however, i imagined the major events being:

S2 last 2 episodes:
- jace's death in the second-to-last episode
- rhaenyra seizing king's landing in the

S3 last 2 episodes:
- criston cole's death
- daemon and aemond's duel

S4:
- storming of the dragonpit mid/late-season
- rhaenyra's death in the second-to-last episode
- aegon II's death in the first half of the final episode

neither of those two things happened in S2 so the rest of the series is gonna be a mess.
yet all azuarc of all sorts are more or less capricious and unreliable - they live in the varying outer weather, and they inhale its fickleness

100%. S2's episode count was also cut, and presumably the budget along with it that would have enabled them to depict some more set pieces/dragon-battles that the show needs...

You can speed it up a bit and have S3&4 wrapped up nicely into one season. The end of the Dance is just as intriguing as the Dance itself. The final few chapters with the Hour of the Wolf and all the changing alliances make for some early GoT vibes.

If I had a nickel for every time an entry in the ASOIAF franchise had its last section cut out and reserved for the next one leaving it ending unsatisfactorily with no climax and two big battles being set up Id have two nickels, which isnt a lot but its weird that it happened twice.
I just decided to change this sig.

The previous instance makes this two-year wait for HOTD season 3 seem like two weeks by comparison

Also this entire series is pointless filler so it feels silly to complain about filler.

That was good. I enjoyed it. I liked the final scene montage.

The season as a whole was certainly not as good as S1. Episode 2.5 was a full episode of chilling after the action that was 2.4 and that made it sort of pointless to me. As for the overall arc of the narrative, S1 appears to have been mostly a huge amount of set-up for the war. And season 2 was therefore the first part of the three arc structure - all set-up. I think that's why it feels pretty down-letting for a lot of people. S1 ended with everything hitting the fan and Rhaenrya getting ready for war... then this season was just all war prep and early skirmishes.

I still liked it a lot, but it's not approaching Shogun (or even Fallout) for best shows of the year.
