I never liked the designs of the Megas and was really hoping they would stay dead after XY as some sort of blemish that never existed. That said, Dragonite's is one of the less terrible ones.

I was hoping the 1 stage and 2 stage ones just become normal evolutions with stats adjusted to account for it

Dragonite is one of my favorite Pokemon

Mega Dragonite is alright, definitely could have gotten it a lot worse based on some other Mega pokemon

Making an angry/badass Mega Dragonite would indeed be missing the point.

The flavor text for it also great.

For Mega Dragonite, ending a Pokmon match quickly is an act of kindness toward its opponent. Its kindhearted nature gets amplified when it Mega Evolves, and it launches powerful attacks at its opponent with a smile. At the same time, if it senses someone in trouble, it has the kindness to instantly rush to their aideven if its in the middle of an intense battle.

It wants to murder you quickly for your own convenience. :)

Now that Megas are coming back, will Game Freak keep the retcon from the Sun and Moon pokedex entries that Mega Evolution is actually really painful and traumatic (and in some cases potentially fatal) for the Pokemon that undergo them in order to shill Z Moves as the new ultimate power of friendship, or will they retcon the retcon and go back to Mega Evolution being the ultimate power of friendship?
