If you had told me yesterday I'd have reason to talk about the Virtual Boy with people born in the 2000s I would not have believed you.

No more going back and forth between time trying to figure out which island to do a thing on they'll be in a chapter format instead, I guess

Virtual Boy attachment is $100 in the US, but only $110 in Canada and 80 Euro. Tariffs at work I guess.

I assume at least part of that is because of the swap-between-rides functionality but still

Honestly it could be mostly fixed with expanded fast travel.

Thankfully those weren't the ones I was interested in, because fuck that.

The most recent TotK and SF ones are grossly overpriced. Thankfully you can get them from Gamestop for $20 each.

Can you? I was just there a couple days ago and TotK were $30 while SF were $40.

Yeah the good thing about the current amiibos being so overpriced is that you can wait for a sale now

I picked up a few of the street fighter and tears of the kingdom ones when they were on sale, but not all of them yet

Back in my day, Amiibo were $12.99.

direct watched

as somebody who still probably won't buy a switch 2 for a long while i'm a little sad the ditto game wasn't multiplat

also couldn't help but notice the hottest buzzword of the direct was Paid DLC, which is certainly an interesting thing to emphasise lol
If the buildable world is on the same scope as the DQ Builder games, Pokopia would not work well on Switch 1.

I've seen it mentioned elsewhere, but I feel like the response to the Z-A DLC wouldn't have been so fiercely negative if they'd just marketed it as a season pass included with a Deluxe Edition. It's the same concept, but people seem to respond way more negatively when it's framed the way it was.
Change is weird.
taking a quick look through the jp direct for stuff that was omitted

megaman star force collection is cool
i've been meaning to find time for the towa and the guardians of the sacred tree demo, looks pretty good
picking up HYKE day 1 still probably
very interested in console resleriana still
how the hell did JUST DANCE end up as a jp direct exclusive lmao
on the other hand not too much of a surprise katamari and xillia were on there
ok i need to share this because it is probably the most cursed thing i've seen in either version of the direct
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/c/c92ebb9c.jpg

edit: continuing now
obakeidoro sequel is very cool, it was a fun hide and seek game and i'm pleasantly surprised to see it make a return
oh yeah that tamagotchi game existed i forgot
i guess it's not that big a surprise but it looks like there's more titles coming to the jp version of the virtual boy nso catalog
i did think it was slightly odd they didn't show dq1&2 hd (even if they showed 7 instead)
i get it's a tower defense but shapehero factory looks bad tbh
trails and fft being present also makes sense
little nightmares 3 is a thing now? ok
sparking zero, that upcoming momotetsu game and yakuza also show up again, which makes sense as well
oh inazuma eleven victory road also showed up again, neat
and oh there's octopath 0. that's probably the last jp direct exclusive (yeah)

I feel like everybody says this after every Direct. At this point I have no idea what it would take for a Direct to get a GOOD reception.

In this particular case, a lot of the stuff here that people get excited about in Nintendo Directs just don't do it for me at all.

The entire Mario section? Nothing. Galaxy is good but $40 each is never happening. Metroid could be cool but the thing they showed here felt off, I played Donkey Kong for about 8 hours and dropped it, I think the Pokemon stuff looks bad, DQ looks weird (though finding out they look like freaky figures is because they actually did base them on actual freaky figures is neat) but I'll still check that out.

But I recognize a lot of this stuff actually is super hype for a lot of people, so that's why I wanted to clarify this was just "for me".

I really cannot stress enough that if I thought everything else in the direct was even twice as bad as I feel about it now, it would still be ranking as one of the all time best for DR and FE.

I think most people would call a Direct good if it had a new mainline Mario, new mainline Zelda and a new Smash Bros. I think this being an hour long just got some people to expect more than the fairly sad spectacle we got. There werent a ton of brand new Switch 2 reveals especially for first party (at least not the kind people would care much about) and there were lots of ports and paid DLC spots in the Direct. It at least ended on a good reveal though

I think assuming popularity means a more prominent role is a big mistake.

I think it means a higher chance of death.

They'd rather radically alter the perspective on the less popular characters.

If they actually manage to alter the perspective on Teruteru they deserve a medal.

I cant believe were getting a release of Innsmouth no Yakata in 2025. Like who even held the rights for that game, it was developed and published by small now-defunct companies

For me, this was fairly middle of the road for a major conference (this feels like the E3 equivalent direct). Like, in terms of brand new stuff, I'm not more excited for anything here than I am for Octopath 0. NSO Virtual Boy is cool, but I'll never play it. None of the NS2 upgrades are for games I'm interested in.

Hades 2 release date is great, new FE is a must-buy, MP4 motorcycle looks fun to me, DQ7 remake could be good. DR2x2 is cool if the new content is good. And Popucom is something I'd love to play someday, though it was already out. I don't really care about the other stuff. Yoshi doesn't look great, and the DLC for DKB/SMBW doesn't look great either.

Things to notice in FE now that I've scrubbed.

First off though, character info for reported on in Serenes Forest.

https://serenesforest.net/2025/09/12/fortunes-weave-info-from-nintendo-topics-japanese/

Weapon durability is back.

DISMOUNTING is back.

Banners behind characters heavily imply factions playing a major part, question is will that be like 3H or more of a Radiant Dawn situation?

Just saw that Engage was announced on 9/13, 2022. Just a day off. Has to be intentional.

Would be really neat if they follow the approximate marketing schedule and release date, too. Would mean a full trailer in November and a release late January.

I feel like there's no way we get Fortune's Weave before April, but we'll see I guess. Wasn't there almost a year between the Three Houses reveal and release?

Edit: over a year, it seems.

Anyway, I was thinking summer for Fortune's Weave.

No chance. Engage's first trailer came with an ESRB rating and release date. Fortune's Weave doesn't have an ESRB rating and only has a release year. The logo reveal is placeholder text rather than the real logo. I would expect late 2026 to early 2027.

Was that confirmed somewhere? I don't see a timeframe on Nintendo's Tweet about the Direct. Even when Nintendo does mention a time frame, I think it usually isn't ironclad and a few games are outside of the range.

I would say this was slightly more substantial but still in the same ballpark of the 6/12/18 trailer, so maybe that's where it's at and late Summer could work out.

That said, Nintendo REALLY doesn't seem to like long tails on trailers to release anymore almost across the board, so it could still be sooner than we think. Really got burned on Metroid Prime 4.

BotW sequel also took a while from announcement to release. But, there's a big gap between a 1 or 1.5 year wait and TotK or MP4 tier.
