I just can't get any use of the mana regen orbs on Reaper. I can only do well in this game if I methodically tackle each enemy by learning their patterns and going in when the timing is right. When I see the orbs everywhere it makes me try to abandon my plan and just rush to grab them asap before they disappear, but that just means I'll get hit. This is why I can't use Flea Brew or Flintstone either, the pressure to get in as many attacks as possible before they run out just means I'll get hit.
Flea brew is useful when the enemy is stunned and you can get a bunch of extra hits. I've basically kept flea brew the whole game and on every crest. Having to refill it is a dumb design decision though. Same with having to refill the vial that gives you extra HP

As for the platinum, Hollow Knight was the same way with requiring ridiculous runs. I'm playing on Switch 2 personally

Aaaand Trobbio is kicking my ass right now. Really cool fight though

minor act 3 spoilers You get an upgrade that lets you refill Plasmium at benches. Still have to go to the fleas for the brew, though, for whatever reason.
pepsi for tv-game
Fake Bilewater bench is maybe the hardest I've laughed and the loudest I've yelled at a video game in a very long time. This game's capacity for legitimate evil towards the player is really something you don't see much these days

Hell yes. I've been wishing for a while that some tools should have upgrades. Good to know. Buuut I use fles brew way more often than plasmium.

I feel like I must be missing something in Bilewater. Can someone who's farther in the game (late act 2 or later, I suppose) answer yes/no to the following question?

Do I need another ability to find where I can get the area map? I currently have dash, tether, the cape float, and wall cling as far as movement abilities go.

I swear I've combed the place over head to toe 5 times already. Also already did the section after getting through The Mist
I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.
can't do it yet.

Yes you need another ability. Bilewater should be the last area done in Act 2.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
Just found out that after clearing Bilewater I apparently permanently missed out on a Zero Mission-style segment in The Slab because I killed the jailer that would have taken me there . That's a bit of a bummer, would have really liked to see that!

I missed that as well.

You can get it still. It spawns in multiple locations, but randomly. I'm not sure anyone knows quite how it works.

I think if you get there naturally it may be too late though? Unclear on that.

I found one - I think in Act 1 still - that I beat to a pulp and didnt get captured. Didn't know about the jailbreak segment at the time. If I see another one, I'll definitely let myself get captured.

Got there eventually, but man does this get a thumbs down from me

Today I decided to punish myself by doing the Deep Docks behind the locked door, complete with the insane gauntlet with the two bomb throwers and the football player koopa troopa dude. The actual boss was easy compared to that shit.

Then, because I hadn't gotten enough punishment, I decided to do Courier's Rasher. The fact that it takes damage if you accidentally run into a wall is beyond the pale. These guys need to be put in jail. I eventually delivered that god damn thing though

Thought I'd play for a nice 2-3 hours tonight and now it's past midnight. Thanks Team Cherry!

Stumbled into the parasite quest - absolutely bananas that you just fall into a quest like this. I love it but hoo boy is navigating without a compass painful.

Couple observations from last night:

Silksong is The Lost Levels of Metroidvanias

The Slab is a great homage to the Zero Suit Samus segment from Zero Mission

Damn, Cogflies getting nerfed (though it seems like they'll be just as good on bosses).
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
One of my biggest complaints with this game is probably the number of flying enemies that dodge away from you. Especially when they also throw shit. It's just so tedious to fight those enemies.

Cogflies are definitely nice for those.

I don't have cogflies but just got the Clawline which certainly helps. Feels like every time I make a post about an issue I'm having, it gets solved immediately afterward.

Ok, the Scuttle is hilarious but I can't think of any time this would be useful.

Managed to get the trophy for the cursed ending . Took quite a few goes to get the timing down consistently on the swords and pick them up in amongst the other attacks but nowhere as hard as the final boss in normal play.

Now time for the speed run(s).

Abound with so much information
Despite its flaws, I think I'm enjoying Silksong more than Hollow Knight. The game is way more hostile and mean-spirited, yet somehow I love it.

There are stalactites you can knock down in the vertical rooms to open shortcuts. With them open, the runback from the Blasted Steps bellway bench isn't too bad.

Yeah, I was going from there. Just managed to beat him. Somehow I get the feeling I was supposed to fight this guy later than I did.

Ok got my first ending, which I assume is just the basic one. This one is not super duper satisfying, but it's probably not supposed to be.

L ace 2 was a really great fight and might have been my favorite so far. Top 3 at the lowest. Duel style fights are pretty much always fun and this might be the best the series has put out. Very fast paced fight that's both fair and focused compared to what some other bosses can put out, but also still challenging enough and satisfying to learn

The boss you fought to get that ending was also pretty good. Felt like a callback to the Radiance fight from the first game but not as difficult, which is a good place to be. Not that I mind the difficulty of the Radiance fight either, but they're both quite fun fights. And I assume in terms of it's function in the story this is actually closer to the Hollow Knight fight if anything, which means this isn't quite where they want to be going overboard with the difficulty.

Totally irrelevant to the plot (I assume) but I also found the first fight I've actually disliked in Broodmother. Real piece of shit.
I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.
Broodmother is a rough fight for sure. I did those same three back to back to back and Broodmother was easily 10x harder than the other two for me.
"You're childish. What are you getting? Are you getting strawberry? Ha! That's such a childish flavor, only children eat strawberry."
I was having a rough few attempts with Broodmother, then I decided to spam the tool you get after Raging Conchfly, and it tore her to shreds.
Burnin, Blazin
Tools are so silly in this game. For me so far, my favorite use was the High Halls enemy gauntlet

First N-1 rounds: Overcome through sheer determination, patience, skillful evasion, and precise nail strikes

Final round: *Spams the entire arena with every spike trap I can conjure*
I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.
I didnt have the tacks yet but I really let rip with the wheel there

I've spent all of my last three play sessions losing against (Act 3 Boss) Karmellita. I am not mad about it at all though, I'm having fun with this one

Was a really hard one. Most satisfied I was after beating a boss.

I just got the cogflies today and they're sooo good. They were even better before? Wild.

The recently mentioned High Halls enemy gauntlet is where I abused them. Saved almost all of them for the very last part and they went to town. Still only survived with one mask left and my fractured mask broken!

Well, it sounds moreso like they were bugged. "Fixed Cogflies incorrectly resetting their HP to full on scene change."
Beat the above mentioned boss. Now I'm on one that I think might be reachable in Act 2 (it was in the White Ward ) and I gotta say this might be the first objectively bad boss I've seen in this game

I had a cogfly last from Shellwood to Mount Fay , knew something must have been up, but didn't know what until I read the patch notes.

Before tonight I hadn't watched anyone else play this game but it was really eye-opening watching my fiancee fight B roodmother . She's generally a very skillful gamer and beat Hollow Knight 112%, but she takes a very defensive, patient approach to fights and I didn't realize until now how many problems this game makes for you if you don't play aggressively.

This really isn't a game that feels like it wants you to wait for openings and that fight especially makes it apparent. If you let up on the offense all of a sudden there's goo all over the floor and four adds controlling space in a tight room with you and you haven't hit the boss in 10+ seconds, meanwhile playing hyper aggro you could've been hitting the boss non-stop and solving a lot of those problems before they even really surfaced. I personally love how much the game rewards fast-paced aggression but I can see how people who don't want to play that way could run into a lot of issues with a lot of fights.

Again, these are design issues explored and solved by From Soft 10 years ago. This game isn't Bloodborne 3. It's barely Bloodborne 0.

I'm legit not seeing any design issues in what I wrote out though, I think it's fantastic because I'm an aggro player lmao

If the game wants you to be aggro all the time, why make bosses like Widow ?

Widow is definitely a boss you can aggro.
