It's a mess at times, but it's usually a fun mess.

I used to say this was my favorite Mario Kart... until I actually went back and revisited it earlier this year. Playing these older Mario Kart games after getting used to the drifting in 8 is quite an adjustment. I still think it's fundamentally a good game though.

It's not the worst but I don't like the swapping gimmick it's kinda just distracting. Lacks any stand out courses.

I love the driving mechanics.

Not a huge fan on everything else.

This was my first Mario Kart. I feel like it is really taken down by sketchy driving (hot take: I like how 64 controls better than DD does) and single player that is complete bullshit even for Mario Kart.

However, with friends it is an absolute blast (especially Bob-Omb Blast), the tracks are really strong, the soundtrack is wonderful, and I think many of the things here none of the other games have for gameplay like two characters and special items are fun.

It's good and has some iconic tracks, though I think it's my least played Mario Karts of the mainline entries.

I actually really liked the two-racer mechanic because it made the series feel fresh. The tracks are pretty good, too.

Actually playing co op in this is fun as hell. Kinda been outclassed by later entries in the series though.

it may not be the most technically sound game, but I have never had more fun with a racer

my whole friend group just gravitated to it, especially with shine thief
